Meet Thien Tu Nguyen of The Live Rhythm Band

Today we’d like to introduce you to Thien Tu Nguyen.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Thien. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My passion for music started very young, around the age of ten. Since I came to the United States from Vietnam, music had always stayed by my side. From being mentored as a boy to playing at venues and parties, I continued playing piano/keyboard and hope I never falter. Music is my life, and I honestly don’t know where I’d be without it.

Continuing, The Live Rhythm Band officially started in 2005 with various musicians and singers whom are old friends. Since then, my band and I have strived throughout the years, performing mainly at wedding receptions, parties and other big events.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been some bumps along the way, but I would say we have had a good run for the most part. One struggle I would address is keeping up with time. Obviously, today’s music is much different than the music back then. For instance, many popular songs in this era consist of hip-hop, dance and pop. Our band plays some dance music in the 70’s, 80’s and sometimes the current top 40 songs. We have spent endless hours to incorporate different genres to accommodate our client demands. On the other hands, our team is a group of musicians and singers who are there to help in case of a team member who happens to be unable to perform on a certain day for a reason. There are times when our team members have to quickly learn the songs requested by our client. It is very challenging but fun.

Please tell us about The Live Rhythm Band.
Most of our musicians and singers started their career in late 90’s. Music is not what we do. It is who we are. We strive for the best performances with heart and soul. In addition, we also come up with some fun ideas to serve our guests better such as games, singing contests, karaoke, etc.… The idea is to leave them with a fun and meaningful night. In order to do all these, it requires a team work which is the key to our success. We are very proud to be referred by so many happy clients. What sets us apart from others is we are constantly looking for the best performers. For example, we have collaborated with Mr. Le Toan who is known for many famous English, French, and Vietnamese songs. He is also a lead guitar in our band. There are other well-known singers such as Hang Nga, Lilian, Thuy Du, Truc Quynh, Manh Ha ect… We also work with many great musicians such as Bao Tran, Le Quang, Le Ngoc, Quoc Thang, The My and many more. These people have worked with us for so many years. For the younger crowd, we have Amanda who can sing and dance. Therefore, they are very familiar with all the great melodies.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from childhood was I really enjoyed the pianists in our neighborhood. I listened to them daily and wished that I could become as good as them.

One day, my parents asked what instrument I would like to learn and I cheerfully answered “I like to play piano, Dad!”. Since then, I had practiced almost daily whenever I had a chance without having my parents to remind me. I felt very fortunate to have great parents who understand my passion and allow me to grow.
