Meet Jessica Gildea of ThePureBag in Orange County & LA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Gildea.

Can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today. You can include as little or as much detail as you’d like.
A couple of years ago, I was living in CA while my mom suddenly became ill in PA from a germ picked up during a gym workout . I felt completely helpless. Fortunately, with treatment she recovered three months later. She alchemized this episode into strength, turning her illness into a wellness business and founding ThePureBag, an innovative product line that helps others stay healthy while working out or with every day life. Being an entrepreuneur at heart myself, I quickly adopted the role of assisting in the growth of our company from events, marketing, business development and social media.

Has it been a smooth road? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Starting a small business in a big business world comes with its own set of challenges. Innovative thinking and persistence have been allies towards growth and success. This is a constant job where I’m always on the clock, discussing my company with friends, photographing different product imagery, and coming up with new ways to promote and market our products. A large corporation purchased several thousand of our products to give to their employees as wellness gifts and our brands are featured and offered on Gaiam’s website! As single use plastic continues to be banned in a new city or state each day, we see an even bigger need for our Eco-Cinch bag. With an eye on sustainable products, we are growing every day!

Tell us about your business/company. What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of as a company? What sets you apart from others?
ThePureBag® Bags + Accessories provide hypo-microbial (antibacterial) protection from bacteria, fungus, mold, mildew and other gross stuff. Our stylish, functional and sporty lineup features bold color combinations with vibrant accents – all to keep your personal environment fashionably fresh, hip and germ-free! We are the only product line that is completely antimicrobial, manufactured in the USA, and women owned. All qualities that set us apart and are attributes to be proud of! My favorite product is our EcoCinch Bag, to hold your workout clothes, wet swimsuit, shoes or laundry during gym workouts or when traveling — anything you want to keep separate and germ and odor-free! This bag is reusable and replaces single use plastic bags as it can be laundered up to 300x!!

Do you feel like our city is a good place for businesses like yours? If someone was just starting out, would you recommend them starting out here? If not, what can our city do to improve?
When it comes to innovation and progressive ideals, California is always at the forefront in our country for positive environmental impact, health and wellness. From a business perspective, CA was the first state to mandate that corporate boards of directors include women (2018). The state also passed an animal rights law giving animals in the industrial meat complex more room to move around, not ideal but better than before and better than other states. When it comes to starting your own business, there are hurdles everywhere. Having a good idea that creates real benefits to people and environment is key for today’s world! And CA offers a receptive environment for start-up companies like ThePureBag.
