Meet Thai Lee of THAheadline

Today we’d like to introduce you to Thai Lee.

Thai, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
THAheadline, for me, is something that developed after being in a place of discomfort. A place of not feeling valued, being underpaid, or not paid at all. It took me being in that place and having sit-downs with people who didn’t mind giving sound advice or giving me that push I needed to get me to where I am today.

The date was November 20, 2015, I was driving home from work, venting to my mother about my job(s) and everything I felt was going wrong in my life. Amid our call, the idea of THAheadline came to me all at once. On that call, I remember telling her how I wished I could start an online publication, where I can post what I wanted to post, how I wanted to post it and reach many people. As any supportive mother does, she validated my feelings and said to do it and talk to God about it.

After she and I ended our call, right then and there, it’s like God whispered into my ear the name, “THAheadline.”

Now, I don’t condone this one bit, but while driving, I googled searched the name, praying that the domain name was available and that I could purchase it before I got home. Low and behold, there it was, to use.

I remember back then, working multiple jobs and still not making much, but I invested all of my money on THAheadline. All within a couple of weeks, I bought the domain name, purchased my website, began designing my site, and contacted a close friend of mine who just started his start-up marketing business JQF Designs to create my logo.

From that point on, the rest was history. At that moment, I learned that if you want positive change, you need not procrastinate but to hit the ground running. No positive change will happen in your life without action.

Ultimately, I decided to go out on a limb to create and invest in THAheadline. Unknowing of where THAheadline may end up, I made sure to put faith in it with high hopes that it will soon become a well-respected source. We have been in business precisely four years to the day, and we have accomplished so much since 2015. From exclusive interviews with A-list celebrities, we are spreading positive news about our community, creating excellent paraphernalia for many of you to rock, and keeping many of our readers up to date with the latest news around the world.

By the grace of God, we have built a lot of significant relationships with many individuals in PR and studios such as TVOne, Lionsgate, FOX, BounceTV, Disney, Warner Bros., and many more, and we’re looking forward to strengthening them even further!

Today, My 9 to 5 pays the bills, but THAheadline builds the empire, and I have no plans on slowing down. It only goes up from here!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, absolutely not. As the old saying goes, “Nothing good comes easy.” The world of entertainment is all about standing out and putting yourself out there. I have had my moments of feeling on top of the world but also feeling as if my publication wasn’t good enough every time I was denied a red carpet or access to a private event.

Being a young, African-American woman with her own publication definitely sets me apart from the rest. It seems as many individuals I’ve interacted with on the carpets are either impressed or completely shocked that I am even there. This process taught me levels of patience and determination I never knew I had.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am a journalist, host, videographer, and photographer. I have a small team that sometimes assists me, but most of the time, I am a one-woman show managing my online publication. I am most proud to have my independence in the type of stories I publish. I am proud of the growth, and I am especially proud of the favor God has given me. What sets me apart from others is my dedication to feel-good news and to steer away from becoming a gossip site.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Who deserves the credit are my mother, grandmother, my brother Keith and a lot of close friends turned family. The support they have shown me during this journey is unmatched. From helping me cover red carpets or filling in when my schedule gets a little hectic is a lifeline for THAheadline and me. There is no greater feeling than having the people who genuinely love and believe in you being your real squad.
