Today we’d like to introduce you to Tetia Stroud.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I can remember doing calligraphy as far back as either high school or junior high when I did a mock album cover for Captain & Tenille’s ‘Muskrat Love’. I became interested again at the end of 2015 and then in January of 2016, I decided to do 3 daily lettering challenges and my improvement just in that one month alone was huge!
After several months, people from Instagram started approaching me about hiring me for different projects. I now do a wide variety of work from group and private classes to custom artwork with a mix of watercolor and calligraphy to invitations, signs, escort cards and mirrors for weddings to a line of cards and products that I offer through my website www.letterbliss.com. I’m always looking forward to the next exciting project.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I love doing the calligraphy and watercolor – anything to do with the creative process – that’s the fun part!! The business and technical aspects are more challenging for me. I needed a website and had heard Squarespace was fairly easy to build yourself. After many hours of wanting to throw my computer against the wall though, I finally had a website! I talk all about how I did that in a blog post at bit.ly/ibuiltthiswebsite.
It’s also been a big challenge for me to learn Photoshop and Illustrator so I can digitize my work for print but thankfully, there are lots of articles and videos to help out. Google is my work best friend!!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Letter Bliss – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Letter Bliss specializes in calligraphy, hand lettering and watercolors, designing custom artwork, invitations, place cards, signs and writing pretty words on just about anything.
We also have greeting cards and other gift items, with more being added soon. It’s important to me to add beauty and encouragement and some humor to business women, brides, moms and women everywhere!
It’s so much fun to plan something that will be treasured for years to come. Whether it’s art that will be hanging in someone’s home or invitations or other details for a special day – I love creating something unique that has meaning and adds to the enjoyment of others.
Teaching others pointed pen and brush pen calligraphy has been such a joy! It’s rewarding to share something special and unique with others and to see them enjoying the learning process.
I’m really proud of how this business continues to develop and look forward to seeing where Letter Bliss grows in the future. I love encouraging other women business owners to go after their dreams and I try to uplift and inspire them to keep going one step at a time.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I’m currently working on adding more products and cards and I’m creating several fonts to sell also. I’d like to increase the number of cards and products so that I can start reaching out to stores and develop a wholesale side to the business.
I host a monthly challenge on Instagram for others to join in and letter the word of the day in a quote or by itself. It’s so fun to look at all the posts for the #letterblisschallenge and see the creativity of so many others. If you need a little inspiration then you’ll definitely want to take a look at my Instagram feed. I post lots of inspiring and encouraging quotes that I’ve lettered.
