Meet Tessa Brand of Tessa Lyn Events in Santa Monica

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tessa Brand.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Tessa. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
After graduating from USC film school, I worked my way from a production assistant getting coffee for anyone who asked, to a DGA assistant director on feature films. 10 years and 45 films later, I was ready for a change mostly because living on location was not the life I wanted.

During that time, I was engaged and planning my own wedding and quickly realized how similar film production and event planning were… Having that unique professional background and a passion for all things weddings, I left my film career and started Tessa Lyn Events with zero event planning experience.

My first clients were people that knew me personally and trusted me enough to take on their weddings. I am forever grateful to those ladies because that was the start of my new career. The company grew very quickly and I was learning the job as I built the business. My second year I was sold out. Five years later and 130 weddings under my belt, I am so proud of what Tessa Lyn Events has become. We now manage up to 40 weddings per year and I have built a great team of coordinators.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The struggle in the beginning was finding brides that would trust a planner with a small portfolio and only a few testimonials. A wedding is a very personal and emotional experience for many couples. Playing therapist is not uncommon for a wedding planner, but was definitely unexpected. That part of my job will always be challenging.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Tessa Lyn Events – what should we know?
Tessa Lyn Events is a boutique wedding and event planning company. We do all types of events, but we are known for our weddings.

We have various packages, but we specialize in full planning services. We help the couple find their dream venue and their vendor team, we design the look of the event, manage their budget and carefully plan and execute the wedding day. Oftentimes we are working with the clients for over a year.

We are known for making every bride feel like she is our only client. Brides always tell us that they forget we are planning 40 weddings at once, and we love to hear that. Our events are high-end, elegant, and tasteful.

We pay attention to the small details and always offer ideas to personalize the wedding to represent the couple, elevate the design aesthetic, and make it stand apart from other weddings, but we never disrespect the original budget agreed upon. We want our clients to look back on the planning process as creative, fun, and stress-free.

Our customer service sets us apart from others. We answer emails and calls within a couple hours, not days.

We have great taste and will always be honest about the pros and cons of any decision.
