Meet Terrence McClain of Joy Fanatic Foundation in Inglewood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Terrence McClain.

Terrence, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Only child / grew up in Inglewood, CA. Grew up with parents that kept great music playing at home. Throwing great parties, creating events, became my way of causing social activity for myself. Music Color and Art were attractive to me. Baptized in P -Funk music in 1976 then Reggae 1980 then Electronica.

All types of music and music production became my ongoing interests. Always had an entrepreneurial spirit and set out to create a business that I loved to do and that would uplift everyone around me. Fast forward to 1996 after participating in an educational seminar called Landmark Forum and other courses. I started Cafe Future & Gallery in 1998 a Cyber Cafe / Art Gallery that was ahead of its time. It was a creative hub for live music, art exhibits, jazz jamm sessions, poetry nights, internet access, health foods, and more (from 1998 – 2003) Cafe Future & Gallery provided a much needed creative space and meeting ground for the Inglewood and surrounding community. I met and became friends with many local artists, performance artists and musicians during this time. The theme was for the patrons to… be in action and talk about your FUTURE now.

2006 – I began to DJ and because I was known for playing such great eclectic music at my cafe… I began to be referred by artists to DJ at gallery openings and art parties.

I began DJing under the name Joy Fanatic and creating events with theme of JOY Fast forward to 2012 – getting back to my calling of providing events, venues and opportunities for those around me to – self – express their creative passions. 2016 Incorporated Joy Fanatic Foundation as a 501(c3) non-profit organization with a mission to “empower all ages to pursue their creative passions.”

Joy Fanatic Foundation is growing and has become known for promoting quarterly community events in the Inglewood CA area that highlight all types of arts and artists from all genres. Visual Arts – March, Poetry – Music – June, Fashion / Art / Food vendors – September, Business Mixer, and a special Joy Fanatic Awards ceremony took place in December 2019.

In 2020, Joy Fanatic Foundation will continue to be an Advocate for ALL Arts and all types of Artists by conducting interviews ONLINE via Instagram and hosting virtual art gallery’s and other events online.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has been smooth when I allowed my self to be self-expressed. There have been times along the way where life experiences and family circumstances may have caused me to shut down my self-expression… leading to dull times. But that has never lasted long for me.

I always return eventually to my creative passion… which is to surround myself with music, colors, and all the Arts and to be a catalyst for everyone around me to be involved in their own art-form or creative passion.

My motto is: Passion + Self Expression + JOY
