Today we’d like to introduce you to Teresa Conrad.
Teresa, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am a LA native. Born and raised here in Culver City. I grew up playing sports my entire life and found a passion for softball. I got a scholarship to attend New Mexico State, where I got to compete for four wonderful years. Coming back from school, I wanted to lose the ten extra pounds I gained from college and help my mom lose weight, so I became certified in personal training and studied up on nutrition. I ended up helping my mom lose 30 pounds and that inspired me to help others. I worked for a few gyms and acquired my corrective exercise certification and implemented online coaching through my own customized app to give my clients even more guidance and structure. This also allowed me to work with people across the country! Not only am I able to share my knowledge with my clients, but they help me grow as a person, just the same. I started my own blog on my website and have really found a passion for guiding people not only physically, but mentally. I love working with ex-athletes who struggle with the same body image, injuries and confidence building that I deal with. I found Conrad’s Coaching to help people “Find Their Fitness Lifestyle”.
Has it been a smooth road?
Coming out of college, I was very shy. I did not have anywhere near the confidence I do today. I always struggled with being assertive and voicing my opinion, until I got so tired of being run over that I took a stand for myself and my business. I literally forced myself to talk to strangers and tell them about my business until I got comfortable talking to people. No doubt I am still an introvert, but have grown so much and keep growing each day.
One of the most difficult decisions I’ve recently had to make is breaking away from my family business and taking on Conrad’s Coaching. I would guilt myself, but following your passion is what I preach to my clients, so we have to practice what we preach, right?!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Conrad’s Coaching story. Tell us more about the business.
My company is called Conrad’s Coaching. I help ex-athletes “Find Their Fitness Lifestyle”. I love doing strength training and athletic training with my clients. I focus on helping them find a healthy & balanced relationship with food and exercise. I also specialize in corrective exercise, since mobility is at the root of strength training. I like to keep it simple. Fitness shouldn’t be too complicated and too many people are misinformed. I am most proud of how reliable, straightforward and caring I am for my clients.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see the fitness industry growing with the aid of virtual reality. I see people focusing more on preventative options. There will also be better machines to help with recovery and strengthening.
