Today we’d like to introduce you to Terajee Warren.
Terajee, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born in Shelby, North Carolina and later moved to Greensboro where I would say the BASA was started. After high school, I went to UNC Pembroke to try the college thing and dropped out, it was not for me! That’s when I started to think about what I really wanted to do and being a creative in fashion was it. I linked with my brother who was into music, to take our craft to the next level and knew that we had to get to LA; besides of NYC is the land of the creatives.
The journey was far from what we planned. It started out tuff, we were homeless until we met mama Lisa and wife (Ness). That’s when things started to take a change and I was able to make pieces to just give out for free to get the name of the brand out. 2016 when my son was born, we had our first pop-up shop in dtla, that was enough to get noticed by a few artists like jimmiiv, Joey Fatts, Tyler Thomas… etc. With the continued growth in 2019 we opened our flagship store in downtown LA. And it been going strong!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No… it was not nowhere near smooth! From being homeless and then fatherhood, I would say was the most challenging thing to overcome during the journey! I had to realize if I’m not straight nothing around me will be!
BASA Studios LA – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
BASA Studios is more than a brand it’s a lifestyle. We are known for shoes and merch/ customization at a reasonable price; but we have started venturing off into creative production for music videos. Everything is made in house and produced in Los Angeles. I’m most proud of our growth in the last year.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me is defined by the goals and vision you set for yourself and bring that to reality!! Consistency and a work ethic to not settle, wanting to be better than you were yesterday are things that I look for.
