Meet Tea Hacic-Vlahovic of Stai Zitta in West Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tea Hacic-Vlahovic.

Tea, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was born in Croatia, raised in North Carolina, became who I am in Milan and plan on dying in Los Angeles. I moved to Milan at twenty to study fashion and quickly discovered that world was too bitchy for me. So I started writing a couple blogs (Crumpets & Sugartits) which picked up steam and landed me a couple columns (Vice & Wired Italy) which landed me a TV show (“Sex in the World” on Sky) which landed me a big ego which shattered when I moved to NYC (brief but intense work at Bullett TV and Wonderland Magazine). In LA, I’ve found the perfect mix of nightlife, nature, debauchery and detox. It’s where I’ve written my first novel, “Life of the Party.”

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
What hasn’t been a struggle? Being a writer is hard every day because it doesn’t make sense as a career. Nobody should do it!* Now I’m better off than I was before but of course the “salad days” are the most glamorous, in retrospect.

*Writers act like writing is hard to keep other people from doing it because in reality writing is the most fun a girl can have with her clothes on!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Stai Zitta – what should we know?
My “company” is STAI ZITTA, a satirical art magazine I founded in Milan several years ago. I worked in magazines for years as a columnist and contributing editor and I saw the industry deteriorate before my eyes, thanks to Instagram, etc. I wanted a space where people can publish the opposite of click-bate. In Milan, it became a real movement; with drag parties and interactive events and gorgeous art films starring you me and everyone we know! Now that I’m in LA, I’m focused on writing. My first novel is coming out in June and pre-orders are available!

I also do stand-up comedy. I post about that on @standupsucks though my main Insta is @teahacic and that of Stai Zitta is @staizitta_magazine (feel free to follow all three).

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I have a mantra that gets me through everything, professionally and otherwise: “nothing is embarrassing if you aren’t embarrassed.”
