Today we’d like to introduce you to Tammy Reese Williams.
Tammy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I became a Sports Camp Leader for 2 weeks before being promoted to a Director position and running my own sports camp in the summer while getting my teaching degree from Western Oregon University. After I graduated, I taught 6th grade for 4 years at a very low-income high gang populated area where it was sad to see kids have nothing to do at recess.
Therefore, I took it upon myself to create a Sports Club in which 200+ kids competed during lunch time. The fact that our school district would not provide us with a PE teacher in elementary school began to bother me. While getting my Master’s Degree in Sports Management: Kinesiology, a PE/Health Teaching Position became available and I took it immediately.
Due to funding being cut, I was laid off and moved to Los Angeles. In Los Angeles, I taught in South Central, then became the Fitness/Nutrition Consultant for 75 Schools all over LA County. I saw such a need for kids and parents to become educated in nutrition and be physically fit that I started a Fitness Campaign in all 75 schools, Parent Nutrition Education Nights, and got 3 schools certified in being healthy for the State of California by being a Stakeholder.
After 5 years of Consulting, I wanted to learn more about the aging population and became a Nutrition Director for 10 Congregate Meal Sites and 2 Homebound Meal Programs for a non-profit company funded by the City. While doing this, I also branched off and began teaching workshops to mommies who were on the go but needed nutritious quick meals to prepare for their family. This is how “Mommies on the Go” began.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Having your own company is always challenging due to funding, marketing, and management. I face challenges but always embrace them and come out on top. That is the boxer in me!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Mommie’s on the Go story. Tell us more about the business.
“Mommies on the Go,” says it all… Mommies are busy and that is where I come in to help relieve them of all the stress and educate them on ways to make simple, easy, affordable, nutritious meals at the end of the day to make their days go smoother.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Time has always been a struggle. I have so many things that I want to do but only so many minutes in the day. Luckily I have great time management and multi-task very well.
