Meet TaLynna of Royalty Massages

Today we’d like to introduce you to TaLynna.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am absolutely blessed to be able to wake up in the morning and do what I love. Being a massage therapist was not the first thing that came to mind when I decided that I wanted to be in the health care field. I knew that I wanted to be in a position to make people feel better. I wanted to be able to help keep people alive, out of pain, and healthy. I learned that Massage Therapy was a perfect way to do that without having to deal with the blood and guts. (I learned early on that I don’t do well with that.) People are under the impression that message is a luxury and not a necessity. That could not be further from the truth.

Massage has so many benefits that fit into your day to day life. Massage can help to reduce anxiety, manage low-back pain, reduce muscle tension, reduce the pain of osteoarthritis, enhance exercise performance, decrease stress in cancer patients, Improve cardiovascular health and so much more. Once I learned how many people were so misinformed about massage and the benefits, I knew that I had to do something to educated people. It may not be your traditional definition of being in healthcare but it’s healthcare none the less.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
This was definitely not an easy road. One of my biggest struggles was believing in myself. For a long time, it didn’t know that I was okay for the little black girl from a suburb in Chicago to be successful or run a successful business. It just wasn’t something that was shown to me as I was growing up. So I assumed that I was only as good as the town I grew up in. I have lived in a few different places and done a lot of things with that small way of thinking. Looking back, its safe to say that its the biggest part of why iv always settled for things I should have never settled for.

Massage School was a struggle for a lot of different reasons, trying to be a full-time mommy to a teenager, a part-time student at night, and hold down a full-time job during the day was a struggle like no other. I missed an entire year of my daughter’s life due to having no wiggle room with my schedule, functioning off of 4 hours or less of sleep a day had become my new normal. I did it tho. I made it through with a business that belongs to me and provides me the opportunity to have an amazing balance between everything I have going on.

Please tell us about Royalty Massages.
Royalty Massages is all about providing the maximum massage experience while using different techniques, enhancements & tools. I officially launched Royalty Massages on July 1, 2019. I am trained in all kinds of different massage techniques. I’m trained in Sports Massage, Prenatal Massage, Deep Tissue Massage, Aromatherapy Massage, Chair Massage, & Stone Massage just to name a few techniques.

I specialize in Swedish Massage & Lymphatic Drainage Massage. A good 70% of my clients come to me to relax. They are everyday people like you and me who just need some time to unwind. We get so caught up in everything that we have going in our lives on a day to day basis. We sometimes forget that we need to take some of the stress off of their minds & bodies. I love being able to provide that experience for people.

The majority of my lymphatic clients have had some kind of cosmetic surgery. I use Lymphatic Drainage techniques on cosmetic clients to help with draining the extra fluid that builds up after surgery. It also helps with circulation and decreases the swelling at a faster rate. I have a small percentage of clients that come to me for Lymphatic Drainage Massage to help with their Lymphedema. (Swelling in an arm or leg caused by a lymphatic system blockage).

I am super proud of how Royalty has grown since I launched in 2019. I’m really excited to see what Royalty grows into as time goes on. I’m excited to watch my clientele continue to grow as I work to get my name, massage benefits, and services out into the world.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over something, I would do differently is start sooner. I spent way to much time not believing in myself. I use to play it safe due to the fear of failure. I had this moment with myself back in 2017 while I was sitting in the parking lot of yet another dead end useless job that I hated and KNEW I was a way to good for. I hated my job so much I would sit in my car and cry in the parking lot before I even walked threw the door. It was horrible, but I knew that I had to work to take care of my daughter. I was sitting in my car fixing my face after crying for the past 10 min and thinking of an excuse to leave. I looked up at the mirror. My eyes were red and my head was throbbing. I looked up and told myself that once I leave this job, I would never work another job that I hated or work another job where I wasn’t valued.

I enrolled in school one week later and haven’t looked back since. As I went through my school journey, I meet so many people from all walks of life. It was there that I learned that I can wake up every morning and do what I love. Something the seamed impossible to me was now possible. More importantly, I learned that I am the only person that is able to determine my value. It doesn’t matter if the rest of the world can’t see it. It doesn’t make me less valuable. Iv have been unstoppable from that moment on!
