Today we’d like to introduce you to Tallie Spencer.
Tallie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m the founder of an independent music publication called REMIXD Magazine. My platform helps independent and upcoming artists grow and expose their music to a larger network. One of my goals for my magazine is to help an independent artists get discovered by prominent talent.
Prior to me starting REMIXD Mag, I graduated from Loyola Marymount University in 2018 with my bachelor’s degree and then from University of Southern California in 2019 with my master’s degree in Journalism. I’ve always been a storyteller and writing about music in particular has been a passion. I’ve had the opportunity to work with companies like FOX, E! News, Billboard, and Good Morning America, which all helped confirm my love for storytelling and allowed me to expand my skillset in writing music news.
Has it been a smooth road?
It most definitely has not been a smooth road. I was a full-time student who always made sure I had a job or internship. Between balancing college life, work obligations, and a social life, I became very busy to the point where I never had down-time for myself. I learned a lot though on my journey and was fortunate enough to have had amazing mentors who helped guide me along the way and let me know about how to keep growing in my career. I learned about what it takes to really succeed in this industry as an entertainment journalist, and realized how important it is to surround yourself with people who motivate you. Even though things haven’t been the smoothest, I’m motivated by the things that challenge me because I like to overcome obstacles and reach the goals I’ve set for myself.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I’m currently a journalist that writes for several different publications about music-related news. Through my brand REMIXDMagazine, I want to provide a place where music industry figures can shine and have the opportunity to share their stories with the world. One of the ways I do this is by working with independent and upcoming artists about how they can increase their exposure. As someone who has contributed several articles for prominent music publications such as Billboard, I’m familiar with how to write about artists in a way that showcases who they are and presenting their music in the best way possible. I’m dedicated to highlighting the stories of talented individuals, and am always accepting submissions!
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love being an LA baby! There’s no city in the world that’s like us.The city is full of creatives, and it offers a huge network. That’s one of the things that I love about it, we’re diverse in ideas and opinions. Working in the industry has exposed me to the ‘Hollywood’ – LA that people have their own perceptions about, but I think when you’re focused on you and your own journey, then LA is what you make it.
