Meet Talin Gureghian of Also in Atwater Village

Today we’d like to introduce you to Talin Gureghian.

Talin, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Beirut born. Armenian parents. Moved to Los Angeles in the late 70s. After attending Art Center College of Design, I worked in San Francisco at Cahan & Associates, a fantastic place to be a designer in the early 90s.

After an impulsive move to the UK, I found myself in No Man’s Land, in the middle of rural Hampshire (Yes, it was really called No Man’s Land). But, after overcoming the culture shock, I soon found out where I was meant to be when home became London.

In 2005, after over a decade working for some of the most innovative branding and design agencies in London, I returned to Los Angeles with my family.

I established ALSO in 2006 with the objective of bringing a clear, simple and considered design aesthetic to new audiences.

Has it been a smooth road?
Changing continents is never easy. The ups and downs were tangible during the recession, but ALSO fared well thanks to some committed clients and keeping things tightly focused.

Three years after starting my company, I realized that a few people with the right talent, knowledge, and experience can garner the same—even better—results as some of the best (and large) consultancies anywhere in the world.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
‘A singular voice with an uncommon perspective.’ Is the guiding principle for ALSO Inc.

The rules of branding are constantly changing, yet audiences recognize a simple truth and signals come from every source: color and image; film and music; words and environments.

To decipher the languages of content, you have to unpick them, play around with them, and put them back together in different ways. It’s a discipline that’s part innate, part experiment and part methodology.

At ALSO, our approach to creative communication is rooted in a combination of powerful minimalism and a compelling emotive, but always looking forward. We call it brand artistry.

The aim is always to make audiences feel connected, think ‘Wow’ and say “I love that!”

We want our clients to expect much and receive more.

We are proud of being one of the brightest and most interesting branding and design agencies in LA’s exciting new wave of creative energy.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Los Angeles is a blank slate. You can interpret yourself here on a daily basis.

After living in cities known for their design output like London and San Francisco, it took some time to navigate the endless possibilities of starting a business here. But once you understand and accept that the city is much more complex than the cliches its known for, the opportunities are endless.

It’s also the best time to live in Los Angeles. I grew up in LA in the 80s and it’s a different city all together – in all the best ways possible.
