Today we’d like to introduce you to Tahre Hale.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started mixing oils for myself 20 years ago but I started my company in February 2019. I didn’t like the way the commercial products feel on my skin so I started testing different oils on my skin and hair that I could name and identify which left me feeling good. I noticed that the mixture I used cleared up acne blemishes and left my skin feeling soft and smooth. I had a feeling I was on to something!
This year, I had a family member that complained about trouble with eczema. I thought that maybe my oils could help sooth her skin so I told her about my ingredients. After using the oil herself she loved it so much that she suggested that I sell it…
I did just that! I wanted to create natural products that has 3 to 5 ingredients that a consumer could identify and feel good knowing the ingredients came from the earth!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
This was no smooth road for me. The family member I mentioned that loved my oil so much started selling my ingredients without my permission. I was so devastated and hurt.
It was when my cousin said, “Make your product better. You live in a bigger market in California.” This is when my journey begin. Her words encouraged me so much that I worked, saved money and did more research to build my brand.
When all of my saving up couldn’t buy the equipment I needed, my family, friends, and neighbors supported me by donating supplies and even buying my products! Until I reach my goals of having my product in Spas, stores and markets, I researched ways where I could sell my products. I had a website created and I learned of vendoring by researching events, pop-ups and farmer’s markets. The obstacle with these venues was money. Becoming a vendor can cost anywhere between $55-$400 for one day depending on the event. Who has that type of money(wanna sponsor me)? The higher the market the more the foot traffic.
I then found a farmers market that I could afford! The neighboring vendors are a joy but the foot traffic is light. This is only the beginning of my journey so my hopes are still positive!
I’m at the Toluca lake farmers market every Sunday 9:30am-2:30pm.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Oils of The Earth by Tahri (OTEBT) uses unrefined/refined and essential organic oils to create handmade hair/body oils, soap, deodorant, lotion bars, lip balm, shaving gel and pet products.
I take pride in all of my products. The one product that conscious researchers know about is the olive oil blend bar. I call this “The Help” bar. Olive soap does wonders for your skin. The benefits that it has on acne, scarring, wrinkles, dry/oily skin, eczema, psoriasis and more is worth seeing and researching for yourself! The coconut oil soaps are also unique. Once you see my bars you will want to try them!
As a company, I’m most proud of not letting fear and someone’s action rob me of joy and excitement for creating opportunities for myself and helping people. Starting this small business has given me confidence and opened up doors for me to educate people as well as being educated on how to take care of the biggest organ
we have….our skin.
What sets me apart is my belief in God, my belief that the earth gives us resources to help our bodies and not letting fear bully me!
What were you like growing up?
Ha! Growing up, I was athletic, a comedian in my mind and loved the arts. I loved running, playing tennis and biking. I loved making people laugh through acting or acting silly! I enjoyed all art forms: paintings, singing, poetry, arts and crafts…I always looked forward to seeing new things!
