Meet Suzanne Strong

Today we’d like to introduce you to Suzanne Strong.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I suspend time through photography, filmmaking and directing.

Through photography, I suspend time into a single moment in a frame to capture the beauty and unique qualities of my clients. Through my films, I create a suspension in time where you can daydream about the moments in life where everything is right. Where everything is possible. Where everything is wonderful. I shoot for fashion brands, musicians, commercial clients and publications creating gorgeous images, films, and videos that bring a little magic to the everyday

I’ve always known I wanted to be a photographer. It all started with learning the skills, of course, followed by practice, practice, practice. Filmmaking fell into my lap when I moved to LA almost 5 years ago, and it became a natural extension of my photography.

I built up my portfolio early on through trades and test shoots until I was able to develop my client list.

Many of my clients at this time are referrals or they connect with me because they know my work. I also make it a practice to reach out to people I don’t know but with whom I’d like to work. If you never ask, the answer will always be “no.”

I got to where I am now through my talents, hard work, ethics, and my superhero power of being able to make my clients and subjects feel very comfortable with me. I create space for them to let their guards down and be themselves. From that space is where time suspends, we find beauty, and all the magic appears.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
This line of work is definitely challenging, which is what makes it as rewarding as it is. It’s always a hustle: attracting new clients, juggling the various stages of projects, staying on my social media game, etc….and that’s not including the actual shoots.

Freelancing takes time to build up your portfolio and client base, so that is definitely challenging until that’s established. Everyone goes through times where you question if you should be doing what you’re doing because sometimes it feels as if you’ll never make it.

That’s exactly when I hold on tighter to my dreams and keep pushing forward with faith that it will come together–and it does!

Please tell us about Suzanne Strong Vision +Sound.
I am a photographer, filmmaker, and director. I also DJ and have held a monthly residency around Los Angeles for the last two years.

I mostly work in fashion, but also work with a lot of musicians and artists, shooting for promos and album covers. I shoot events if they are directly related to music and/or art.

I am known for my unique visual voice as well as being easy to work with. I have a natural knack of making people feel very comfortable during my shoots. I know how to direct a shoot where everyone feels they are contributing in their best way, that they are heard, and in the end, we create amazing projects. I run a tight, but fun and creative set!

I am most proud of my studio space and the magic that it has helped me create.

There are a lot of talented people in my line of work in Los Angeles. What sets me apart is that I help make my clients and team feel incredibly comfortable and valued.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I would have created my business more officially and taken more risks earlier on. I would have gotten a studio space much sooner. Once I got a space, I started taking my work more seriously and I also attracted clients that took me more seriously who also aligned with my bigger vision. It’s the old Wendy’s slogan: “If you build it, they will come.”
