Meet Suzanne Sallaj of Candow in Burbank

Today we’d like to introduce you to Suzanne Sallaj.

Suzanne, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
From 2012-2016 I submerged myself in music education. I spent all my time and money learning songwriting, piano, singing, and eventually how to produce my own music. Eventually, I was ready to put myself out there with the songs that I considered complete.

My idea of a release included two things: posting on Soundcloud and announcing on Facebook that I released a song. You may be able to tell that I didn’t get far with this. After the third song, I pulled my music and began learning about music business.

The more I learned the more I realized we as indie artist have countless hats to wear if we want to be serious musicians and actually make a living from it.

Candow’s goal is to help indie artist come up with creative release marketing strategies and then create the content for that strategy from scratch.

The second reason for Candow came from trying to find a musician photographer. I found one in New York who promised an EPK. What came from that was only a waste of money. There are plenty of businesses who work on either branding or the content creation side (such as making a music video), yet I haven’t found something quite like this.

I started Candow from a simple idea of making a photography studio for musicians. It evolved into helping with all sorts of content creation (including photography, music videos, and interviews) as well as marketing and branding.

Candow is continuously growing its knowledge, quality, and experience. It has the potential to being the ultimate affordable one-stop shop for indie artist who need help! So I’m very excited to see where we go.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I don’t believe in a smooth road. I think anything that’s worth being proud of comes from failures, mistakes, and obstacles. So I don’t think I would be doing my job right as an entrepreneur if it was a smooth road.

As for the struggles, I started out doing three complimentary packages for indie artists who were releasing music soon. I required the artist to be releasing music soon so that I could practice creating strategies and implementing them with content creation.

There were trial and error situations, but through patience I learned how to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Candow – what should we know?
Candow is a creative branding service for indie artist. It is an affordable service that custom-tailor’s packages based on an artists’ needs. We assist with branding, artist development, marketing strategies, and content creation.

I’m super proud of Candow because it speaks for itself. It has a personality. It cares about people and their goals. As the founder, a strength in this business is that I am a perfectionist. I want everything I do to be the best it can be and speak from a meaningful place.

Art is life and if we put our hearts into it we are doing our job. That is what Candow stands for.
