Meet Susanne Fuggetta of Candlelight Chaos Band

Today we’d like to introduce you to Susanne Fuggetta.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I grew up in a very musical family and was exposed to very different genres as a kid. My mother was a hard rock lover, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and my father, a lot of Italian Artists, two complete opposites.

I have been involved in the “Arts” in one way or another my whole life. I started as a Makeup Artist right out of High School in the hopes of becoming famous with my creations in makeup for TV/Film. Of course, that never happened and opted to go into my other current career as a Finance Director for over 35 years, but during that whole time of evolving into that career, I found myself wanting and needing to allow my creative side to come out to play.

I was in the entertainment business for ten years while still doing my Finance career in the Props and Wardrobe Department for TV and Film and loved it, but always wanted to pursue the Music Industry. I have now taken on the job of Managing Bands and find that with my “Finance” background coupled with my love for “Music,” the two seem to meld really well together with an understanding of how both work, I’ve found myself in a win/win combination.

Working with Labels such as Bongo Boy Records has given me a much better understanding of the industry as a whole, and I could not be more grateful to them for allowing me the pleasure of working with such incredible artists and professionals in the industry.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Well, anything “new” is never really smooth, is it? However, in saying that, I must say that doing what I do, does indeed feel natural to me. Have there been struggles? I would not call them struggles per se, challenges? Yes! And I am always up to a good challenge.

You know, when working with bands there are different personalities, opinions, backgrounds, weakness, and strengths involved, it’s my job to figure out each member individually and work with that, rather than against it. All in all, it has been a great experience that I hope to be a part of for a very long time!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Candlelight Chaos Band – what should we know?
I currently manage “Candlelight Chaos” a Hard Rock/Progressive Metal Band. Due to my love for music and the arts as a whole. I also consult with various bands that I am passionate about. I would say that I am most known for being a very “hands-on” Manager.

My hands are in everything from the clothes they wear, to song line up for live gigs, to merch, to artwork, visual presentation, disagreements within the band, bookings, promotions, branding and daily phone calls/texts with each band member and constant communication with their label. I’m not an “I’ll call you once a month or week” type manager at all, LOL!

My bands know that if they need me for anything, including personal advice, I’m here for them. You really are the closest person to your band members outside of their own personal families, and I think that separates me from a lot of other Managers or Management Companies.

I prefer to work with a very small amount of bands so that my bands get 100% of me, rather then 10%, I would not be doing the band any justice if I took on more then I could chew by spreading myself too thin. I feel that with my 35-year career in Finance and having worked in the Entertainment Industry, it sort of gives me a “leg up” if you will, to be a very well rounded “hands-on” Manager.

Working with a band that knows you they are, what their brand is and who their audience is. It has been nothing short of pure pleasure! This band with each and every member who are all seasoned musicians by the way. With the lyrics they write to each melody they lay down are incredibly important to them, if you listen hard enough, you will find a message in each song. These guys are unusual in the fact that they have all known each other for years and some since early childhood. In this industry, that speaks volumes, they recently changed the band name from IRON CORE to Candlelight Chaos. IRON CORE is the name they had many moons ago while still a “garage band“ lol that was named when these guys were kids. We feel Candlelight Chaos represents who they are today, evolving from that childish garage band IRON CORE. Into this incredible professional Band that has a very focused vision of who they are and where they’d like to go in the future!

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Passion, passion, and more passion! Communication is also huge for me as well as believing in who I represent — not overloading myself with too many bands at once.

Thus the reason I am able to be so hand’s on. Without those few, but very important things, what would be the point really? I wouldn’t be doing anyone any favors at all quite honestly. But for me, passion is the most important characteristic thing any Manager can have for their bands.

Being able to communicate with your team is also important, I feel that it’s important to build a team that ALL work well together including the Label because, at the end of the day, we are all working towards the same goal.
