Meet Su’Mejko Hall of Intellectual Hands in Inglewood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Su’Mejko Hall.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My journey began when I was 14 years old and all I knew was I had dreams of me doing hair I would sit in my aunt shop and sweep up the hair and watch her customer service and clients in and out like day and night I knew then when I seen the magical things that happened with those women hair I knew it was for me..soon after years had passed I enrolled and school and found out I was pregnant I pushed through with beauty school but soon lost hope after that school shut down on me right after giving birth all my hours all my hard work down the drain so I kept doing hair (mainly braiding) and never stopped in 2012 I enrolled again in school at UNIVERSAL COLLEGE OF BEAUTY located in Compton but my world was soon changing I became homeless and lost everything text books tools clients car home and I took me and my baby and got into a transitional home and stayed there until 2014 where I struggled for 6 months and found out my second son was on his way I of course left school but I was able to get my first place and me and my two boys were blessed I bought a styling chair and all that I could remember I was taught at school i created my first home salon (but I never stoped braiding) after working 3 jobs and having two kids I thought I was fine and life happened again and I had to stop school and lost my place again because of them tearing it down where was I to go??? So I trusted that family would be there and my granny did I worked and saved got a car put my kids in school and was able to get another place in 2017 I got a bigger place more rooms and I was happy but never gave up hair all while I was going through I was perfecting my gift which brings me to JAN 4 2020 at 11am I found my school and picked up where I left off I’m now a graduate a mother of three boys business owner and master braider and I’m well known all across social media and in public!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Losing everything and building from ground up watching the very people you trust try and take your gift for themselves. Being a single parent and business owner.

Intellectual Hands – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
INTELLECTUAL HANDS is not just a job it’s my life besides my kids this is where you come to unwind let your hair breathe and talk it all out all while getting vital information and understandings about the love and care of your hair.

I specialize in braiding and natural hair care.

People call me the “Intelligent Braider” because I make it my business to know each product each clientele and each problem.

I’m known for my knotless braids and box braids.

What sets me apart from so many other is because no matter who or where you are I followed rules of state board I build relationships of respect with my queens and kings and I let them know if you think it can’t be done I’ll make sure we try before we say it can’t I pour my heart into what I do and I kept it professional with every struggle and never made anyone of my clientele feel as if it’s their fault.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is when you have reached a point in life where you are proud of yourself success isn’t big or small it’s achieving each one of your goals one day at a time but all while enjoying them.

I know I have completed when each one is able to say I’m happy and thank you for helping me!!!
