Today we’d like to introduce you to Sudeen Shrestha.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
22-year old born in Nepal. It was hard to leave the country and all my friends and family back home after 16 years and move to a new country. It’s like being born again and starting everything all over. My dad moved to America and show many opportunities so I also came to have a better education and career. I moved to Dallas, TX in 2013 and finished high school in 2015. I used to do a lot of painting when I was little so from that division, I slowly had a vision and making beautiful portraits in my photographs. After high school, I started shooting different bands and musicians around Dallas for a year. Didn’t t have any knowledge of using any camera equipment and basic lights except the regular camera and lens I had? I decide to go to Film school for BFA in Photography at New York film Academy. I just graduated in May 2019 and have been doing freelance work with different bands and musicians in LA, and also photographing fashion models. Besides being a professional photographer, also one of my hobbies is mixology I love making drinks and work as mixologist when freelance work is slow.
Has it been a smooth road?
Obstacle wise as a professional photographer I’m happy on what I’m doing and contents I’m creating with people I love. Definitely, there’s always issue with a budget when your working as a freelancer. But before any of this most challenging thing was moving to America to new people and culture. I learned pretty fast as my English was already better and could communicate to people but the accent was still hard but total culture change was hard to follow which definitely took some time and still is a problem sometimes.
What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
As a business, I started with my name Sudeen Shrestha so didn’t really wanna have a fancy name as a company or anything. As a single person working by myself most of the time I wanted people to know my work by my actual name and I like it when people recognize my photographs or any content I create and see my name.
Major stuff in doing is photography but slowly getting into different content and promo video and also starting to create music videos as well. I mostly work with bands, musicians and artist from around LA. I also am a fashion photographer and love creating different editorial fashion with different and amazing people and I work with and have come across in my time in LA. I love people I work with even if it’s just for making contact further and keeping that relationship strong and continue creating people photographs with them. With the contents I create, I’m promoting myself as well but wanna take I’m working with to the next level as well, that’s making huge different from others.
I didn’t want photography or anything like that behind my name cause I want my name as a title and maybe, later on, grow as something else as a brand, and not just be secluded been photography and video company.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The industry has been changing a lot and I think definitely will change in the next 5-10 years as well people and technology are evolving together. And there are so many technologies that are making creating stuff easier for you. I see that as an advantage but also people are using it so much that if they have to revert back to old ways they won’t know anything of how photographs are created. Definitely have to keep old ways of making things alive not only work in digital but also people should still have knowledge of analog works.
