Today we’d like to introduce you to StevieBoy Muziq.
StevieBoy Muziq, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I always had a passion for music. My parents love to tell the story of a younger Stevie doing the moonwalk, dancing, singing to Michael Jackson at three years old, while asking for the Smooth Criminal & Bon Jovie VHS’. I was heavily influenced, through my parents, who immigrated from Mexico at young ages. They exposed me to The Great Artists of the past. FuNk & Old Skool, Mo-town, Soul, mixed with Classic rock, & Latin corridos often filled the air in my family’s home. Bands like George Clinton & The P-Funk Allstars, Dazz Band, Zapp & Roger, Prince, Earth, Wind & Fire, mixed with, LED Zeppelin, The Doors, Santana, Journey, Doobie Brothers, Vicente Fernández & Ramon Ayala all forged an eclectic blend of musical taste that lies embedded into the fundamentals of my music; A true taste of the California Persona. One of my uncles was a legendary DJ of the 80s & 90s. He would tour with The “Lowrider Magazine” Car Shows. It was there, I got my first taste of DJ’ing. My older Cousin, DJ War, was the first to allow me to hop on the decks (turntables) and taught me how to beat match. I can recall spending countless hours in his studio learning how to mix his newest Haus and Trance records LoL!!! My dad bought me my first mixer & pro gear when I was 12. (I think I got good grades or something…) Fast forward to current day; I moved to San Francisco to pursue my undergrad. Here I learned how to write songs and produce music. Upon completion of SFSU, I homed in on my talents and have never let up in my musical journey to greatness!!!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Absolutely…… NOT. LoL! I would say transitioning from a student to becoming financially independent & secure were one of the greatest hardships I endeavored. Especially trying to become an adult in the most expensive city to live in the Country. Also, having to wear multiple hats as an entrepreneur has proven to be challenging.
