Meet Stephy Plechas of Stephy’s Bride Guide in Orange County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephy Plechas.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started Stephy’s Bride Guide in 2017! I had worked for a local wedding planning company as an intern and day of coordinator, which was an incredible opportunity that taught me so much and allowed me to grow with actual field experience. Eventually, I wanted more interaction with clients, as-well-as to work more on the vision and styling of weddings, so, with the extra push of encouragement from my husband, I knew it was time to start my own business venture. I started Stephy’s Bride Guide as a blog, where I blogged “All Things I do”. Including wedding planning tips I’ve learned along the way, a “Real Brides, Real Weddings” series every Wednesday, interviews with other wedding industry professionals with advice in their specialty, and essentially everything I could to help brides-to-be who possibly couldn’t afford a planner or were looking for specific wedding topics.

With my blog grew an audience which turned into clients! I booked my first solo wedding in 2018 a couple of months after blogging and continued to book clients mainly through Instagram, my blog, and word-of-mouth. I’m so proud to say that in 2019 my 2020 calendar was officially booked solid to my limits and I am continuing to grow my business already booking weddings into 2022! I’m excited to now offer my own décor & rentals and looking forward to incorporating my new Stephy’s Bride Guide app into my service for an even more complete and comprehensive experience. Everyday I work on finding ways to better serve my amazing clients.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I will say that the challenges brought on by the pandemic really pushed me to be the absolute best wedding planner I could be. I knew I was a fast and efficient problem solver but when the pandemic hit, there was no warning, which brought about a ton of panic and stress to the industry but I did not hesitate to start finding solutions. My clients are my top priority, and we had already spent countless hours pouring so much effort in planning these 2020 weddings, and this pushed me to do everything I could to help. Every one of them experienced a hit from Covid-19, big or small—it’s devastating to have your wedding ripped away from you—and it challenged me as a planner professionally, but also brought many emotional challenges to figure out how I could make my clients feel the excitement and joy surrounding their wedding again.

Even after all the issues were resolved, it was very hard for many brides to feel excited when they were so close to being married, to pushing it back another year. I was challenged with planning several plan-b weddings in under a couple of months, but no matter what the circumstance was I knew that I was hired for a reason and that I had the power to create the most beautiful day even if it was not the original plan. 2020 presented my business a silver lining in the form of a ton of obstacles and challenges that I can proudly say were overcome with the best possible outcomes.
