Meet Stephen Baldonado of Guru Shasta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephen Baldonado.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Guru Shasta is a spiritual retreat space located in Mount Shasta CA:

At the point that I started Guru, I had been on a spiritual journey of about eight-nine years…. my “awakening” happened over the course of these years knowing that I was here for a higher purpose.

I knew that being happy was a noble endeavor, but that sometimes being happy was clouded by the ‘junk’ of emotional trauma. Retreat of all kinds was the vehicle that allowed me the time and space and focus to help heal and release these blocks.

Guru Shasta was an inspired idea that was channeled through Stephen one summer afternoon visiting Mount Shasta… he had been hiking and meditating on the mountain…

In a moment of deep reflection, a vision was downloaded in a flash… it was understood by Stephen that it was time to create a space for the healing of the human consciousness, and take his gifts as a designer and healer and blend them into ONE. The road to the creation of GURU was a true miracle… one steeped in the magic of surrender and guidance.

GURU was established and imbued with an intention of helping anyone drawn to Shasta to uncover their own inner wisdom, highest-self… your GURU within. It lives within all of us, and oftentimes it takes a retreat to hear it and acknowledge it.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Creating Guru has been a road of self-discovery, which overall has been an exciting road… but of course not without its challenges. I would say the biggest challenge has been to get out of my own way and to surrender to the process of unfolding. I read a book at the outset called “The surrender experiment,’ and it was transforming.

I was keenly aware that in order reach new levels in my life I needed to believe that it was going to happen, and as each day passed my job was to notice how the universe delivered… Sometimes in ‘packaging’ that I would not have recognized as what I asked for… which is where surrender came in.

The more I surrendered, the more I was able to achieve the monumental task of creating, building, promoting, and implementing Guru.

Please tell us about Guru Shasta.
Guru Shasta is an intimate retreat center on eight acres of woods with a main home, yoga room and several smaller accommodations (lotus belle tents and rustic cabins). It is designed to hold 15 adults comfortably in a very natural setting.

I am the space creator, and a network of healers, yogis, and energy workers hire out the space for their teachings and benefit of the human experience.

I am most proud of the response of the space from people who visit, and how they each have their own experiences, and how that matches up so magically with the intention of what I set out to create.

I would say what sets me apart from other spaces is the feeling of the space (high vibes), the decor of the space (comfortable and contemporary bohemian), the intention of the space (container for revealing your higher self).

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would not do anything differently, I feel all the wins and all of the challenges where exactly what I needed to experience so that I could be who I am today.
