Today we’d like to introduce you to SP Paniagua.
SP, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
The roots of my inspiration and motivation to start NRVS date back way before I knew exactly what Streetwear was. I used to skate when I was younger and I was heavily into grabbing the latest edition of the TransWorld SKATEboarding Magazine and flipping through all the pages to see all the cool photographs and company ads. I was inspired by the creative images and apparel that brands like Enjoi, Chocolate and Plan B were producing and I knew in the back of my head I wanted to create content like this, but had no idea where to start. Around 15/16 I began becoming really inspired by Graffiti and I would constantly draw letters/names for myself and others, using a wide variety of colors and intricate lines.
This inspired me to eventually pursue an education and career in Graphic Design. Once I was out of High School, I immediately attended college and in my last quarter, is when NRVS was born. I always knew I wanted to create inspiring and dope content and my love for apparel design only helped fuel my passion. NRVS started as a concept project in College, but with the motivation, support, and determination, I was blessed enough to be able to bring it to life in the Summer of 2013.
Has it been a smooth road?
For the most part, it has been somewhat smooth, but with small bumps along the road. Nothing in life is easy of course. Just last year I found myself at a fork in the road with my brand, I felt we weren’t doing as well as I would have liked to and I was struggling to keep the momentum, drive, and Vision alive. I really needed that self-reflection phase last year, I lost sight of a lot of things and honestly, having a solid team beside me is what woke me back up and made me realize that I need to push through these obstacles and continue on with doing what I love.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the NRVS Apparel story. Tell us more about the business.
NRVS which stands for “Inner Vision” is an apparel company based out of the Inland Empire. We specialize in Men’s wear, ranging from T-Shirts to Hoodies to Snapbacks. What sets us apart from many other brands is that we aren’t just throwing some designs on a shirt and calling it a day. I personally design all the artwork for the brand and I pride myself in developing meaningful content with multiple meanings and influences. NRVS is not just a brand but we’re a family. A collective of like-minded individuals whose main goals are to inspire and help others.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The Streetwear industry is definitely at a turning point right now. Being in the industry and seeing brands I once looked up to, decide to call it quits after decades, really changes my outlook on a lot of things. I almost feel at times the market is oversaturated with individuals only doing it for the money. The industry is constantly evolving, one minute you are in, the next you are out. I suppose that’s where some of the fun and excitement lies though, in the unpredictable.
