Meet Southbay Photographer: Elizabeth and Clivins Dantus

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth and Clivins Dantus.

Elizabeth and Clivins, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
We met each at game night in 2008 and immediately clicked! Photography has been a key part of our relationship from the beginning to getting married and starting a family. Elizabeth, an actor/model loved being captured to artistically document her story. For Clivins, photography was more of a passion and hobby to capture memorable moments with a design eye. As we shared our personal moments and cool photos through social media, people started asking us to capture their headshots, family portraits, and weddings! After several professional gigs, we decided to make it official and established Clivabeth Photography in 2014. Since then, we’ve been honored to have our work featured in numerous national publications including The Knot, Essence, Bridal Guide, Black Bride and more.

Has it been a smooth road?
Our journey has been a fun and amazing experience. It’s a blessing to be able to work alongside your spouse and best friend with a passion you both share. Like many relationships, there were a couple of bumps in the beginning, such as knowing when to switch gears between personal and business. However, our relationship and talents grow stronger and we get more in sync with each shoot.

What are your plans for the future?
For the future, we plan to continue to do what we love doing which is capturing and creating photographic memories for families. In opening our studio, we are able to expand our types of shoots to give it a more studio look as well as photograph babies and families without compromising their comfort due to outside weather.

Let’s explore some of the challenges you’ve faced along the way. What was the most difficult part of your career so far?
Thankfully our journey in growing our photography business has been fairly smooth. One of the hard parts of being a husband and wife team is separating work from personal time. We are so passionate about our company that we feel the drive to be doing work all the time, whether it’s shooting, editing photos, reaching out to clients, taking classes, marketing, etc. We came to a point where we were constantly working and not making room for our marriage and family time. We learned to set business hours and take breaks for ourselves and family which keeps us fresh and rejuvenated.

What about “Wow-moments” – any moments that stick out? Any moments when you felt like you had made it?
Our wow moment was when we received our first booking from a couple that we did not already know personally or through a referral. A couple found us on social media and booked us. It’s a humbling and honoring experience for couples to trust us with their big day and such a huge moment in their lives. They were just as excited about us capturing their engagement and wedding as we were behind the cameras. An added bonus, as much with many of our clients, we became pretty good friends, and now their family photographer.
