Meet Alfredo Pasquel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alfredo Pasquel.

Alfredo, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started my career in music early in life, back home in Mexico City. The sounds and music of its streets captivated my imagination since I was very young. The intricate soundscapes of the capital taught me about sound and how can it establish culture, perspective and emotions to the world around us.

Even if I knew it or not I have always been walking towards a career in music and sound. I am naturally and thus irrevocably drawn to follow the patterns in music, sound and the emotional response in the human body to them.

Throughout time, I’ve been fortunate to be surrounded by like-minded, brilliant and positive people. I’ve developed a passionate devotion to my work by collaborating with the most talented artists in the world and constantly pursuing excellence in every sphere of life.

Thanks to the experience that I’ve been able to attain while working in the film scoring industry in Los Angeles and to my technical background in engineering; I’ve merged the artistic sensibility of music composing with the sound-shaping techniques of mixing into my sound design today.

Has it been a smooth road?
Making the move from Mexico City to Los Angeles a few years back was a difficult challenge but I was convinced that I wanted to be the best at my craft, to work in the biggest and highest grossing movies on the world. Many talented composers, musicians and producers from around the globe move to this content-creation hub for the same reason so I wanted to be close to them and to learn from the best no matter what.

Every career path has difficult challenges and struggles. I can’t say I’ve had it as bad as others but what mattered most for my specific case was having the right attitude and to not be discouraged. What others might see as an obstacle I see as an opportunity to try something innovative and that has brought me a long way.

Tell us more about your work.
I am a sound designer and re-recording mixer in Los Angeles. My driving passion is to bridge the gap between concept and practice, to bring soundscapes and music into a tangible medium through the artistic use of technology and resources.

When I’m working on creating sounds for a film I’m always thinking on ways to bring the emotional content of the story to the next level. The progress and development of a film’s plot are greatly enhanced through the use of sounds and musical notes by creating an expectation, tension, climax, suspense and conclusion.

Fully immersing myself in a story and understanding the core elements of a narrative set me apart as a sound designer and as a mixer. I use music and sound to make a movie become an unforgettable experience.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
With the advancements in entertainment technology and media, artists and content creators are constantly being able to push the envelope of what is considered possible. Interactive platforms like virtual and augmented reality open up new doors of imagination waiting to be explored like vast lands on a new world.

Immersive audio and interactive music invite our audience to actively participate in the unraveling of a story turning them into the main characters of the plot. My educated opinion is that we will see a big shift towards VR, AR and interactive entertainment and its seamless integration to our everyday lives.

I can also expect to see the use of artificial intelligence and neural network tools to create procedurally generated music, sound design and in real-time audio mixing for interactive platforms. And I can’t wait to start creating unfathomable soundscapes and music with them!
