Meet Sonya Schwartz of Golden Folk Wellness in Silverlake

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sonya Schwartz.

Sonya, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have always been in awe of a balanced life, and how humans in our society strive to accomplish this ideal state of being. During my twenties, I had a deep calling to facilitate this quest by way of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Over the last two decades, I’ve cultivated my own style to support this goal in honor of the individual and their divine process. As a practitioner, I remain humble to my teachers and patients for the wealth of knowledge they have taught me. I do not call myself a healer. I prefer the idea of a conduit that helps the body heal itself.

2013 welcomed the birth of my dream community healing space, Golden Folk Wellness in the Silverlake neighborhood of Los Angeles, We are a team of practitioners with a wealth of holistic skills and tools, dedicated to one’s optimal state of health & well being.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Every small business has trials and tribulations unique to their model. I am from the grassroots school and have never used marketing and only very little social media to grow Golden Folk Wellness. Our existence is solely based on word of mouth from our community and long-time clients. There’s a charm to being a hidden gem in such a vast city, but we are solid!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Golden Folk Wellness – what should we know?
When I was in grad school for Traditional Chinese Medicine at ACTCM in San Francisco, I would daydream about returning to my hometown and opening a cozy space in a home-like setting to practice acupuncture.

I opened Golden Folk in 2013 with a desire to create a unique community wellness space, devoid of the traditional clinic/hospital setting. My intention was to create a tranquil and safe house of healing dedicated to one’s optimal state of health and well being.

My acupuncture practice has evolved from my initial TCM training. Over the years, I’ve incorporated modalities I have learned from my teachers and mentors. My approach includes traditional fire cupping therapy, craniosacral, aromatherapy, functional and herbal medicine.

Over the last several years, Golden Folk has grown to include a team of sympathetic and specialized practitioners offering acupuncture, medical and therapeutic massage, psychotherapy, organic skincare, breathwork, sound therapy and Reiki.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Highly individualized care, tailored to every unique person.
