Meet Julien John Charles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Julien John Charles.

Julien John, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m a Portrait Photographer. I was born in “The Nature Island” (Dominica) and moved to America in 2007. Ever since I was a little kid, I was fascinated with interesting photos. I started taking photos of my own with my iPod and Go Pro and then began taking pictures of my best friend on my iPhone.

I invested in a Canon camera and started my business, taking family photos, capturing parties and birthday parties, and taking acting headshots and modeling/editorial photos. Now I work with clothing companies, doing product photography and fashion projects. I have travelled to so many wonderful places and met many beautiful people on the inside and out. The best part of my work is the human interaction and relationship building because growing up in a Christian home taught me to treat others like you want to be treated.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It was not a smooth road and had my doubts I would succeed but kept pushing. It was tough working a full-time job and doing photography since I was struggling to pay rent, struggling to find time and clientele.

Please tell us more about your work.
My company is built on the quality of work I put out but my main focus is to leave a lasting impression on any clients I work with. My aim is to show people how amazing they are and making the most simple things look extraordinary. I’m known for the excellence of my work and I specialize in portrait photography.

I’m most proud of the relationships I have built since I started my company. What sets me apart from others is the genuine compassion I have for my clients and passion for my craft.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I could start over, what I would have done differently is stop procrastinating and take more risks. You automatically loose the race if you never start.
