Today we’d like to introduce you to Somruthai (Chef Fern) Kaewtathip and Noree (Chef Pla) Burapapituk.
Chef Fern and Chef Pla are originally from a province in Thailand called “Phuket”, we both have strong passion for cooking since we were young. Chef Fern learned her basic cooking from her grandma, then she decided to attended the culinary school “Le Cordon Bleu” in Pasadena. On the other hand, Chef Pla learned her cooking from her parents, both of them were chefs. Her dad was an executive chef at a big hotel in Phuket while her mom had her own small restaurant. The two have been involved in running Thai restaurants for years. With the support of family, friends and beloved ones, we decided to open Luv2eat Thai Bistro together in September 2014.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Of course, it’s not smooth at all, there are so many challenges everyday in running a restaurant. When we started up, we had a limited budget to operate our shop. But we were so lucky that from the first day we opened, our beloved customers came to support us a lot. Second obstacle is people, to manage people is a major challenge for us. Daily operating obstacles that we don’t know when or what are going to happen, for example, accidents at work, the drain is clogged, unexpected shortage of supplies. Therefore, everyday is a challenge for us.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Luv2eat Thai Bistro – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Luv2eat is an authentic Thai restaurant in Hollywood area, we serve varieties of Thai dishes such as Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, Tom Yum, Tom Kha, Som Tum (Papaya Salad), Green curry, Yellow curry, Panang curry, Massaman curry, etc. We specialize in authentic Thai food, especially from the Southern Part of Thailand as we both are from Phuket. Signature dishes by Chef Fern are Hat Yai Fried Chicken and Moo-Ping or Noodles, while Chef Pla signature dishes are Crab Curry and Kua Gling which is stir-fried turmeric curry paste that Chef Pla makes totally from scratch. We are so happy every time that we see our restaurant is full and our beloved enjoy our food, or every time that customers say that they love our food, it’s very yummy, all those compliments make us feel so special. We always make sure that we do our best, and we serve what we eat. If we can’t eat, we don’t serve it. For example, we change frying oil everyday because we don’t want to eat the food that fried in old oil.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We believe that it is the authentic Thai cuisine that we serve that brought us success. We make everything as it should be, as close to the same as you would eat this food in Thailand as possible. The spiciness is one of the uniqueness of our food, it’s not like insane spicy that you can’t eat but if you order our food spicy, you will probably be sweating for sure. It’s edible spicy, a little painful but tasty. It’s like we invite our friends to try our food at our house, so we will make sure that everything is as we eat in Thailand.
