Meet Abdulina of Something Different Magazine in Long Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Abdulina.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am born n’ raised in Long Beach and am super proud to be from a city like Long Beach. My parents moved out here from Mexico to start a family and… that they did. They had six kids and a lot to handle. My parents have always been very hardworking and my siblings too. Hispanic parents will do that to you! Having a Scorpio mom, an Aries dad, a Leo brother, a Pisces brother, a Libra sister, and two Pisces sisters, well it was a lot. So many personalities, all so different. Growing up was a rollercoaster but it has brought me to the person I am today. GRATEFUL. Long Beach in itself is full of all types of people and all types of cultures and religions. It’s full of community and creatives who are so authentic in what they do. It’s definitely inspiring to be from the city that makes Icons. Now me, I’m would best describe me as a shapeshifter. Here to represent Latina Pansexual strong women like myself.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’d say I’ve been through some sh*t in my childhood but haven’t we all in one way or another. I’ve learned how to be independent at a young age and keep to myself but the real struggle came when I came into my spiritual self that uncovered all those things I needed to deal with from my childhood and even past lives. Shoutout to all the people, practices, and music that has kept me sane!

Please tell us about Something Different Magazine.
Abdulina within herself is a brand but she also created Something Different Magazine to create a safe space for all the weirdos. It is a movement more so than a brand. I am the creative director of my own world and enjoy showing bits and pieces of my mind through my work. Being my own muse and creatively directing or collaborating with all types of artists on shoots that mean so much more than just pictures. I also make lifestyle and fashion videos on YouTube @ Something Different Magazine that is pretty much a visual journal for my creative genius. I am truly a shapeshifter and could not tell you what one thing I am because I enjoy learning every role.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Really thinking about it, I am so grateful for those moments playing with my neighbors and going to fake wars. Also, those little acts of rebellion with my friends that gave me a thrill.
