Today we’d like to introduce you to Sol Aponte.
Sol, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started out as an artist, a “lover of music. I always had a passion for music and the arts and creating tangible projects that could stand the test of time. My business mind however always kept the commerce aspect of the industry at the forefront as I learned early on the entertainment industry, was indeed a business. That was a tough one.
I went to college for business thinking “it would be great to work in the music business”. After the first two years of college, the artist in me could see me going in the traditional “business” graduate path, so I left and went to an Audio Engineering school in NY to learn how to produce and engineer music. I soon realized that engineering other people’s music was not something I was at all interested in and transferred all of my credits to Long Island University where I graduated with a degree in Media Arts. That experience planted the seeds and love for producing and storytelling.
After college, I jumped right into working behind the scenes in the television industry primarily as a sound engineer. I did really well for myself and got two Emmy nominations by my mid-twenties. I was working for several networks simultaneously and started investing in real estate where I did extremely well.
My real estate and other business endeavors allowed me the freedom to invest in creative projects, which became my new found passion. I was able to fuse my business and relationship skills with my entertainment experience and passions, to create content across multiple platforms. My goal, however, is always ownership over the content. I look at intellectual property as just that… property.
I’ve produced a few shows as well as a few short films. I am currently in development on a feature film that we look to shoot later this year, written and directed by my super talented wife Jennia Fredrique Aponte. I am super excited about it because it is a project with many organic ancillary verticals. We really look to get on the board in a big way with the production of this film and the other ventures that spawn from it.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There were many struggles along the way but I’ve come to believe that struggle is just a part of the process. Some struggles are business related, some are family related, some are discrimination oriented. I think what keeps me centered through the struggle is by consistently striving for the solution in every situation. Being solution oriented not only helps to bring about a speedier resolve, but it also feels a hell of a lot better than dancing in the problem.
