Meet Sohiala of Adored Artists

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sohiala.

Sohiala, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I also go by Rainbow – I was born & raised in Moreno Valley, California to an Afghani mom & Black / Native American dad. My mom escaped the Russian invasion in Afghanistan and came to America when she was 12 & met my dad five years later. He’s where I get all of my musical gifts from. When I was 12, I’d sneak and use his guitar when he wasn’t home & taught myself how to play it until he found out – he was happy to see I was learning it on my own but told me I’m holding the guitar wrong. I’m left-handed so I first learned how to play it upside down. I kinda wish I kept playing it like that. I wrote my first song at 13 and have always known music was the path I wanted to take.

My household was always very creative and there was always great music bumping in the house. From Motown hits to 80’s rock bands like the Cure, Depeche mode, Siouxsie and the banshees, Queen – If they weren’t playing, I’d hear my dad playing or singing something.

The whole family is creatively inclined. My mom’s a writer, my sisters paint and design, my uncles a skateboarder and filmmaker etc – so art has always been a big part of my life. I did all the school talent shows, rapped every year for school state testing & sang at church a lot growing up – but I didn’t seriously start to pursue it as a career until 2017. I decided to move to LA – young, broke & clueless – but I learned so much and met some great people. I used to be hesitant to work with producers at that time so I decided to learn a DAW myself and that’s when I installed Logic and set up my home studio. I dropped my first self produced and engineered song “ROOMS” which got some buzz from my city and is the start of how I met with my partner and CEO of Adored Artists.

Has it been a smooth road?
I’d say definitely not, but a lot of that reason has to do with me being in my own way and just having the wrong mindset. I’ve had to let go of so many self-destructive patterns of thinking that had unconsciously been controlling my life. I really had to look in the mirror and ask myself – what am I doing? Why am I doing this? who am I becoming? – I’m far from where I know I’m going to be but looking back to where I was, I feel light years ahead. The love from my team, friends and supporters really inspire me to be better and continue making the best music I can. I’m excited for that momentum to kick in.

Please tell us about Adored Artists.
I met my partner, best friend and boyfriend Steven Rai back in middle school but we lost touch for a few years after high school and reconnected two years ago.

Since the first day, we reconnected we haven’t stopped creating together – he was bumping my song “ROOMS” and asked if I needed a music video to it. The next day we did some test shots and created new content together every day since – and in February of 2020, Adored Artists was formed. A D ✪ R E D ARTISTS is a creative collective consisting of filmmaker, CEO and A&R Steven Rai, graphic designer, co-founder and rapper Alexander Wolfe, creative director, engineer and rapper Francis Wolfe, and co-founder, singer, songwriter and producer Sohiala. We’re also happy to announce our newest Adored Artists to the team – ATL’s most Adored rapper Nessly and Toronto’s rising star it’s92. To be adored is to be loved. We are all adored and that’s the message we want to spread. No matter where you’re from, what you have or don’t have, how you feel or what you’ve been through – YOU ARE ADORED.

As a collective, we represent a group of first-generation immigrants with backgrounds from India, Afghanistan, Guatemala, Africa and Iran – who are most proud of being an inspiration to other multi-racial and multicultural – American kids that are pursuing their dreams and using all of what they were given to create an abundant life. I love my team so much and feel so blessed to have them in my life. They’re all creative geniuses and friends for life. Adored Life for life!

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see Adored Artists expanding worldwide in the years to come. I predict to have label backing and stronger financial support which will allow us more reach and a larger audience. We are all still developing as humans and as artists so my trust is that God will continue to guide us in the right direction. We all started this in our hometown and so much has happened just this year that it’s impossible to tell just how much can change. Every member of Adored has a unique skill set that we’re diving deeper into exploring and are excited for you all to witness its growth and evolution.
