Meet Skyler Talley of Killer Visuals in Santa Monica

Today we’d like to introduce you to Skyler Talley.

Skyler, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Growing up throughout middle school, I was that kind of skate rat kid. I skated every day, practically lived at my local skatepark in Palmdale. Around my 7th grade year, I started creating skate wax for skateboarding. This eventually sparked a newfound passion to which I started my first business from. Starting out as selling melted down candle wax to my friends around school to developing the first high melting point skatewax with top tier skate shops around the USA carrying my products. With this came Instagram, I needed to create content for the business and it all started off with a simple Gopro camera. I filmed my friends and I skating around Los Angeles and my local town for months on end. When it came down to editing, I found myself really enjoying the learning process and bringing these little videos together.

I would spend hours on end learning how to edit and shoot better from youtube. This turned everything and I really began diving deep into editing, videography, motion graphics and visual effects. My business was still running but I slowly became more intrigued with these newfound skill sets.

During my senior year of high school, I left to go full time with videography/photography and slowly closed my skateboarding company. I started off with small gigs for local businesses, learning along the way and pushing myself as much as I could.

Towards the end of my senior year, I received an offer from a work and travel company called Take Australia. Take Australia truly helped me open so many new doors and opportunity to do what I love. A few months later, I left my local town and moved to Sydney, Australia. I worked as a freelance videographer and content creator working day in and day out to self sustain myself. It was extremely difficult at first, but I wouldn’t have had it any other way. During my first year in Australia, I made some amazing friends and connections as well as built a small following on Instagram. I started to receive offers to travel to Bali and Puerto Rico. I took literally all and any opportunity I could.

After almost a year and six months away from home traveling between Australia, Bali, and Puerto Rico and my Visa running out of time, I decided it was time to come home. The connections and amazing people I now call my close friends I’ve met along the way helped me get to where I am today and allowing me to do what I love every single day.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It definitely has not been the smoothest. Lots of Ups and Downs. The hardest thing I always struggle with is self-doubt. There are a lot of amazing content creators out there and I would really get in my head thinking my work would never be good enough.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Killer Visuals – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.

With the current state of the world during this Pandemic things have really come to a pause as for travel. I have still been working and practicing new skills every day but really can’t wait to get back out there in the world.

I currently plan on traveling back to Australia, Bali, Philippines, Java, Hawaii, and Saudi Arabia.

The future is looking bright and I can’t wait to see how it all comes together.
