Meet Skyler (Cakes) Sawyer of Too Turnt For TV in Downtown Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Skyler (Cakes) Sawyer.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Skyler (Cakes). So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My career began in 2017, I began organizing and hosting my own shows. The exposure offered me the opportunity to work with artists from LA, thus beginning the start of my Los Angeles journey. I made the move to Los Angeles, California in September 2019; enrolling myself into the Los Angeles Film School for a Bachelor’s in Entertainment Business and propelling myself into my modeling and music management career.

I began working in the underground hip hop and rap scene; working as a contracted transitional artist manager that has resulted in a signed deal for her artist 10 cellphones.

I am known for my advocacy for mental health and the vegan community. My vision is to continue working directly with brands and curate events for women and remaining proactive in helping out her community. I am known for my advocacy for the environment, mental health, and community expansion. My mission in life is clear: uplift, support and build those around me so they can fulfill their dreams and goals.

Has it been a smooth road?
Definitely not a smooth journey! To get where you want to be is not only about focusing on work but you have to be your best self to be deserving. Success is a lonely path, no one can take you where you need to go. Not everyone can go as far as you’re trying to go and that means unfortunately, some people have to get left behind. I miss having the free time I use too. The biggest struggle has been to just balance life when you are shooting for the stars!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Too Turnt For TV story. Tell us more about the business.
I thrive in the creative world, providing creative direction and content curation for various music videos and influencers. I work in film production in locations such as Los Angeles and New York for notable companies such as Stars, HBO, and Netflix films: Blacklist, Good Trouble and a few others. I’m mostly proud of how we accept everyone, we don’t censor you or only uplift your pros but we accept every part of someone. We keep things real & authentic. Our main focus with our clients is to give them an experience they won’t ever forget and see incredible grow because of it. Lastly, what makes me proud is the team I have around me. The people I have selected or who have selected me even. We always show up for each other, uplift and support. We constantly add to each other’s vision. I’m proud of the leader I’m becoming, and the connections we keep building.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I think that over the next 5-10 years, there will be more cultural awareness as well and environmental awareness with what we wear, what we put into our bodies, all the products we use, what we watch, listen to, etc. It’s important that people will be more educated on helping out their community the best we can, uplifting those around us and we can do that by constantly putting it out there and feeding people that type of content.
