Meet Simone Valentine of Simone Valentine Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Simone Valentine.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Photography was unwittingly instilled in me throughout my life. My dad is a photographer, so it’s something I have always been around. Observing his passion, dedication and talent in action over the years has given me a deep appreciation and respect for the craft. Although I admired him and his work, I never formally had any intention of doing this professionally. It all started after I got my first professional camera. Mind you, I didn’t buy it to take pictures, but rather shoot my own short films! However, being an actress, the need for great headshots is always there, so it didn’t take long before I was setting up photo shoots with friends for fun. Pretty soon I was getting referrals and helping my friends get in the door for auditions. The rest is history. It started out so innocent in the way that all great passions do: “Just for fun”. I will continue to pursue it as long as it feels this way.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In the beginning when building my portfolio, each person would get at least a week or two of my time in editing etc, because I couldn’t stop gushing over the images. I am glad to be at a point where I am more decisive and aware of my time. I still offer guidance as to which photos I think will work the best, but ultimately let the client decide and only edit their top picks.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Simone Valentine Photography – what should we know?
I do session photography. I am currently specializing in headshots, lifestyle/editorial type shoots, but I also do family/couple/pet portraits and even special events and red carpets!

People think being a photographer is about taking photos. In my opinion, that’s not even half of it. It’s about loving what you’re shooting. I fall in love with whoever and whatever I am shooting, because I am only willing to focus on the very best! Whether I am taking a picture of a rose or a grumpy old man my logic is the same. I know my subject is original, brilliant, beautiful in a way that can only they can express and I will do whatever it takes to shine a spotlight on that during the shoot. For all actors. I know from experience that Headshots are their calling card. They have the power to get them in the room or keep them at home. Hiring the wrong photographer could mean 6 months with little to no auditions so it’s important to get it right! Casting directors see hundreds sometimes thousands of faces a day so how can we make their headshot stand out? Sometimes wearing bright colors isn’t always enough. Not only do I focus on getting a killer crop that pops the eyes (window to the soul), but I also strive to make the photo tell a story so that they won’t be just another grinning hopeful in the lineup, but rather a relatable, dynamic, breathing character that has something to say. Approaching the shoot like this make the photos a force that can’t be ignored! I want the best picture as much if not more than my clients do. It’s a passion! I see the beauty in my subjects and capturing it in photos is my expertise! I am so excited to meet and help take my clients to the next level of wherever it is they want to be. I guarantee that anyone who shoots with me will leave the shoot feeling like a star and have the photos to prove it!

I find natural light to be the best and tend to work mostly outside. I am always finding new and diverse locations to shoot, but I am also willing travel to my clients to fit their needs. I don’t stop until I get the shot! I love for my subjects to be as involved in the process as possible. I welcome everyone to review their images during the shoot to make adjustments as they see fit. I can recall many headshot sessions where I spent hundreds of dollars to get back 400 variations of the same exact image! Unless that’s the goal, I want to provide my subjects with as much variation as possible. I am constantly in motion (no tripods for me).

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
My advice as far as success goes: You get what you give. Help as many people  you can along the way and truly want the best for them. The universe  has the ability to meet everyones desires, so stop looking at life as a competition and start looking at it as a co-creation.  Every single person comes into your life for a reason. You attracted them there and they attracted you. Never write someone off as irrelevant or useless to you or your success. There are so many reasons for a person to show up in your life, but each reason leads to your own personal expansion. Every relationship offers you something significant: the chance to become more than you were before.  So welcome people and their presence in your life with open arms and truly want the best for them.

Success in any field and also in the game of life is about relationships. When you are living to give, because you are overflowing with valuable stuff to give: knowledge, kindness, love, talent, abilities, and you give it freely because you genuinely enjoy the thrill of moving that person into a better place, a better state of being,  now you’ve got it! Because now you don’t care whether or not they can give you anything in return, bc you are fulfilled by the giving, flowing, offering up of the best of who you truly are.   This ladies and gentlemen… is when you will truly soar, your relationships will flourish and you will be a guaranteed success.
