Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherry Soliman.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Sherry. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
The idea for Choisi came about because of frustration with the fashion discovery process. I found the shopping experience tedious and time-consuming.
I noticed that it was particularly difficult to learn about emerging brands and that this disconnect was causing many of these labels to go out of business. I saw that there was a gap in the market between independent designers and the customers they were trying to engage. I realized that using AI technology to personalize fashion discovery could benefit both the brands and the consumers by connecting the right designers to the right customers.
Using the AI allows us to match customer preferences to the appropriate items and creates customized experiences that are much more enjoyable. Once I had my idea in place, I began to attend tech conferences around LA, and I also did some networking online to find the right team to help me build the platform. We initially built a basic prototype for our site and began sourcing brands that focused on producing unique, high-quality items.
Today, we have over 40 amazing designers on the site and have evolved into a personalized luxury fashion marketplace, which lets shoppers explore relevant talent from around the world.
Has it been a smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. My co-founder, Tay Ung, and I faced obstacles in finding the right team to help bring our vision to life. Developers would start and then drop out, which left us at square one over and over. At times, it was tempting to just call it quits, but we persisted and built what we could on our own. We eventually found an AI engineer who was really passionate about our idea and was also a great fit for the project.
Aside from issues on the technical side, there were challenges in recruiting fashion brands since our platform was new and many brands were worried about possible negative effects to their image by joining an unknown marketplace. It took a lot of relationship building, but once we signed on a few brands, we found others much more willing to come on board.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with CHOISI – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Choisi is a luxury fashion marketplace powered by artificial intelligence. Our aim is to create an innovative way to purchase fashion straight from independent designers while allowing shoppers to discover and shop the latest fashion from unique brands worldwide. By using AI, we help serve as a ‘matchmaker’ between designers and consumers.
Shoppers are able to find one-of-a-kind styles and really express themselves through fashion. The AI engine combines visual similarity, user browsing history/behavior, and fashion-related social media in order to develop build models representing customer preferences, behavior, and buying patterns.
Analyzing the data on the customer, as well as, on each individual garment enables us to provide personalized results. We constantly evaluate the performance of our recommendations to ensure that we show the most relevant designers to each customer.
Essentially, customers have their own AI stylist as they shop, which we feel helps set us apart. A key advantage is that even if designers aren’t featured on the main page of our site, they can still get their products in front of the right customers since recommendations are based on the shopper’s personal preferences and not popularity.
We are very excited that we can offer a platform, which allows independent designers the opportunity to gain more exposure and focus on their creative process rather than worrying about the financial risk that comes with not having the necessary insights into how their collections are being received by target audiences.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I really love that LA truly has something for everyone. There is always something to do in LA with new activities and events popping up almost every week. The best part is that people who share the same interests are always around and can meet up at any time to go out and explore since many LA residents don’t have a regular office job. The diversity of the city’s people and neighborhoods makes it a wonderful place to live and meet others from all sorts of backgrounds.
Like most LA residents, I absolutely hate the traffic in the city. It’s gotten especially worse in the last couple of years, and it makes going anywhere a very frustrating experience because it can literally take hours to just drive short distances.
