Today we’d like to introduce you to Shennel Fuller.
Shennel, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I graduated from college with a degree in social work but somehow found my way into corporate retail. I worked for a number of major brands such as Levi’s, Converse, and 7 for all mankind. Each experience was unique and gave me the skills I needed to step away from corporate and leap out on faith into my own venture.
Like most entrepreneurs, I saw a gap in the market that I set out to fill. As a new mom, I couldn’t find classic non-stereotypical basics for my son. Everything was on the spectrum of loud obnoxious gender conforming prints to extremely edgy adultifying clothing. Miles and Milan was created to be the brand that is the middle. Classic, effortless, and welcoming with a childlike sweetness.
After 3+ years, Miles and Milan has grown beyond clothing. We are a brand that merges my love of fashion and helping others. My mission is to make parents’ lives easier through informative content, networking through virtual and physical meetups (when it is safe to do so again) and simple well-made products.
Has it been a smooth road?
Starting a business is never easy! The act of just starting is a mental obstacle course. Once you’re in it, there are few good days, some bad, and everything in between is stress. What I have learned along the way is to celebrate the good, big or small! Take bad as a stepping stone to learn and hopefully never to repeat mistakes.
“Mistakes have the power to turn you into something better than you were before.” – unknown
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Miles and Milan story. Tell us more about the business.
Miles and Milan is a brand that showcases timeless, no-fuss clothing; paired with milestone development content via meetups that will keep parents informed on the stages ahead.
Our products are meant to mix and match with any item in your child’s growing closet, creating an effortless uniform allowing you to build up your kiddo’s wardrobe without ever scrambling to find great looking outfits that match.
And our journey goes beyond clothes.
Let’s face it, we get thrown into parenthood with a lack of knowledge and high stakes with raising our little bundle(s) of joy. Our goal is to bring parents together to create a safe, inclusive, and educational space for parents to learn from each other leading experts in child development.
Nothing gives me more joy to know that I have help someone in the journey of parenthood.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Innovation is key for an entrepreneur, but now in the era of Covid-19, it is even more so important.
I have lots of new plans up my sleeve to help families that I plan to launch later this year. In 5-10 years, I plan to expand categories and continue to serve the parental community.
No truer words have ever been spoke than, “It takes a village to raise a child.”
