Today we’d like to introduce you to Shemaiah Monique Jones.
Shemaiah Monique, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Well, it’s definitely been a journey. I started with three businesses. An online shoe store (Reine Shoetique), an online clothing boutique (Reine Collection) and a women’s network (WPI Network). I started my shoe business & women’s empowerment network December of 2016, then transitioned to clothing March of 2018. By this time, trying to run both my online boutique and women’s network eventually became extremely hectic and difficult to retain thriving entities. Because of this, sales dropped and things weren’t as consistent anymore. Stunted growth soon followed and most importantly….I had no fulfillment. Even after being featured in a total of 4 fashion week shows, I still felt lost. What was worse, I had no clarity, no vision on where to go next. I needed to get to a point where I could hone in on my calling/fulfillment FIRST, as well as what was actually working.
After much reflection, I started to realize EVERYTHING that worked each time (business and fulfillment) was my women’s empowerment network. Clarity and vision flowed effortlessly as I served other women, helping them reach their goals and purpose. However, this next move would have to be strategic. How in the world am I going to convey to my customers and audience this move. It definitely took a lot of prayer, a lot of humility, and strategy to get to the next step. I also had to let go of the (self-inflicted) “embarrassment” of being perceived as some failure or one who mismanages business. This next move would be a bold one. A faith move.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
ABSOLUTELY NOT! Lol, I don’t think it would be entrepreneurship if it were smooth. You’re the boss when things are good, you’re the boss when things are bad. You have to figure out an entire business. It’s ins and outs, ups and downs. The backend, frontend, and everything in-between. You literally HAVE to go through trial and error. Experience the hardships and struggles.
The struggles for me became real once I started to become profit-driven and not purpose-driven. I would get so frustrated with sales. Some styles would sell completely out while others didn’t or only sold one. I started to drift away from my initial propose and just wanted at that point to just make the business work. I then started trying to “copy” other businesses and sell what they were selling. I was totally out of my lane and most importantly, I lost my WHY.
I would challenge any business owner to never be afraid to reassess and reevaluate your business. After your second year, start to do a self-inventory and business check. If things aren’t consistent or progressing…go back to the drawing board. and keep going back until you get it right. Business/entrepreneurship is not easy. However, it takes humility and a plan to make it absolutely work.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with CRWN 31 – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Talking about CRWN 31 gets me hyped! It hits different when you’re in purpose!
CRWN 31 is so personal and spiritual for me. It was literally birthed from clarity, vision, and rediscovery when I felt lost. I knew I wanted to create a one-stop shop for women to be in style and empowered HOLISTICALLY. I realized how much I had been limiting myself not only as a businesswoman but as an empowered woman. There are so many elements to how women are empowered. I was reminded that clothing was just one aspect of the vision.
We took empowerment and style to create a lifestyle brand curated for regal, purpose-driven women. As I previously stated, CRWN 31 is also spiritual for me, as its name derives from Proverbs 31. This particular bible passage speaks volumes to our brand and what it represents. This Proverbs 31 woman is purposeful and regal. She is stylish and productive. Effective and beautiful. I cried and screamed when this came to me lol. This is why it is so important to be aligned with your purpose. Your vision becomes clear for your life and business.
From there, we launched CRWN 31 January 22, 2020, which was also my birthday. I strategically wanted to celebrate this faith move, from comfortability to boldness for my 33rd year and beyond. Every year I want to celebrate one step closer to fulfilling my purpose and waking up each day eager to work! We now holistically inspire women through home & office goods, beauty & self-care products, along with our new CRWN 31 Apparel, our QueenTalk Podcast, empowering events, and soon coming “QUEEN IQ”, the Queen intelligence headquarters for success, connection, and motivation. Offering webinars, business services, mentorship, and more.
CRWN 31 is in full effect!
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
What I see for the future…wow.
GROWTH. Consistently leveling up. I see this brand being the staple of empowerment and style. I want to create a marketplace for female entrepreneurs, career opportunities for minority women, grants for small female-owned business. I ultimately want to see successful, influential women BIRTHED from this brand. That would be one of my greatest accomplishments…is to see other women soar because I was their wind!
WOW! So much more to come…stay tuned ladies!
