Meet Shelia Dorn of Yvision in West Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shelia Dorn.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
The journey to creating Yvision began many years ago, as a single mother. In addition to my regular job, I began doing hair & makeup to assist covering the cost of my childrens performing arts school tuition (Amazing Grace Conservatory). Soon, I would create Yvision Artistry. As my children began to fall in love with entertainment, I wore many hats as their mother, as well as their managers. I was determined to help my children live out their dreams and create them a platform, where it wasn’t so readily available to them. I started putting on shows for ‘independent artist’, to give them exposure! Next, I would establish Yvision Entertainment and Indie Nights LA. Parallel to helping my children, a friend offered me a job within the infertility industry. Over time, I became well versed within the industry and helped create an establish a multi-million dollar company. Soon after, I took a plunge of faith and created my own company, Yvision Elite. A boutique type agency, assisting infertile couples and individuals who are unable to have children naturally.

Essentially, Yvision is my baby too. It has grown and flourished over the years. I have established several branches of Yvision and I’m excited to see what the future holds.

Has it been a smooth road?
There’s definitely been some challenges along the way. Many times the best way to learn is through trial and error. I think I am a testiment of what hard work & dedication looks like. There was a time my greatest obstacle was fear of the unknown. Although I knew I had the ability to run my own company, I was fearful of the responsibilites that also came with it. I wasn’t sure if I could handle it all on my own. Once I fought through those fears, I realized my greatest challenge was myself. I was the only one holding myself back. I learned to trust and have faith instead of allowing fear to sabotage my ability to live out my own dream of running a business, doing what I love!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Yvision – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I am very proud of Yvision Elite, which is one of the branches of Yvision. We specialize in helping families and individuals on their journey to parenthood, and if necessary, with the assistance of an egg donor or a surrogate mother. Our passion is to make this experience as pleasant and memorable as possible for the Parents as well as the young women selflessly sacrificing their bodies to help someone else create life. I take pride in knowing I have a direct and personal approach with all of my clients. We are with our parents, surrogates and donors, every step of the way. In doing so, we have created life long relationships and I believe this is what ultimately sets us apart from others.

The other branches of Yvision are taking wings as well, Indie Nights LA was created to provide a platform for independent artist to showcase their artistry in a professional setting, expand their fan base, and create a buzz in an industry that normally highlights mainstream artist. Indie Nights LA was birthed from a hardworking mother making a way for her children to be heard. I began putting on Indie Artist shows in the early ’90s. Beginning as a platform for my two children Sha’Leah Nikole and Alfred Jackson, it quickly began to attract other artists and grow into something much bigger. Now, this family-based venture has attracted the likes of hundreds of local LA artist, searching for a platform. Every second Thursday of the month, a new lineup hits the stage to share their talents with their peers. Furthermore, our calendar of events consist of Art Showcases, Community Outreach opportunities and more. We welcome our attendees to visit our website to stay connected with Indie Nights LA as we host monthly, along with other partnered projects throughout the year.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I like that its multi-versatile. You’re surrounded by many opportunity and the ability to live out your dreams if you work hard enough. If you dream it you can achieve it.

What I like least about the city is the traffic!
