Meet Shekinah Lowe of Kana LeMai Visuals in Downtown LA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shekinah Lowe.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Shekinah. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
When I think back on who I was or at least who I thought I was, I can honestly say I probably wouldn’t recognize myself if I were to meet me in person as the person I am today. From joining the Marines at 18 and thinking this was the final road for me, to being stationed in Japan and completely losing myself in the midst of it all. I never thought I’d really find my calling, let alone as a videographer/photographer. Even though I joined the military to be a combat videographer, It was just a job to me. Just a check in the box, showing up to work everyday and aimlessly going through the motions. I’m not sure the day or the exact moment I felt compelled to host my very first video shoot, but that was the best day of my life and t has only been getting better since then. That was officially one year ago, this month.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
This road has been far from conventional or smooth, far from easy, and definitely far from predictable. After I started hosting shoots, I started to force myself out of my awkward unapproachable mindset. It helped me develop a greater understanding for people and the importance of soft yet respectable social skills. I will say, this was probably one of the hardest skills and internal obstacle I have had to face so far.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Kana LeMai Visuals story. Tell us more about the business.
Kana LeMai Visuals is a brand built on the elevation of self-love, worth, visual representation & reflection. There is more to just pointing, shooting and editing for me. It is a gift I have been blessed enough to recognize to share with others as we develop a spiritual connection from artist to muse, and vise verse. I learn so much from each and every one of the beautiful faces I work with. It has humbled me and gives me clear guidance as I build my sister brand, A New Beautiful. A New Beautiful is a content creation social event for women, powered by women. I host this event series to create a space for women on the whole artistic spectrum to come network, share knowledge, create content for themselves, their brand and elevate their skills. From photographers, videographers, models, painters, makeup artist, vloggers, bloggers, brand owners and even just supporters of the cause. We give each other the gift of support, live affirmations, stories, laughs and just overall divine connections. It has been a great pleasure of mine to serve my community as a female photographer who not only understands the toxicity of the industry but will do everything in my power to change the outlook for every soul I encounter along the way.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t really believe in luck because I believe everything happens for a reason and I am where I am supposed to be no matter what I think I should have done differently. I believe every lesson is learned for a reason and every encounter I have serves a special purpose in the long term journey I have been chosen to walk.
