Meet Sheila LaCivita of 4 Corners Deposition Summaries

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sheila LaCivita.

Sheila, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.

I had a very hard life and chose to do something about it. I grew up in poor neighborhoods in Northern Cal, going to schools in rough neighborhoods that were surrounded by government housing. We lived in the nearby military housing. Our schools had the reputation of being the roughest in town and I did not realize it at the time because I had nothing else to compare it with. It was the way of life; the norm.

My parents never gave me money except lunch money, which we spent on things we should not have at the age of 14. It was not until my parents moved me to Los Angeles that I realized there were opportunities and a better way of living. In my teens, I was inspired by the Hollywood glam, social life, nightclubs, parties, networking and business opportunities.

I learned everything I needed to know about running a business through my first sales job. The owner taught me the most important things for a successful business is (1) top quality products/superior customer service; and (2) sales. I literally got into the legal field by accident. Got in a car accident; hired a lawyer and saw how plush the office was compared to the industrial aerospace facility I was at, so I thought it’s time for a change. I did not know how much I was going to love being in the legal field until I became a legal assistant in 1996 and later got my paralegal degree with distinction from UCLA. I am still considering going to law school.

The desire to make money and be competitive made me an entrepreneur. I believe this is either in you or it’s not; you cannot teach someone this. Entrepreneurs willingly stay up until midnight working hard on the next big thing. There is a motivation factor of being the best in the business, constantly looking for ways to out-do your competition.

I have surrounded myself with successful, like-minded business people. I learned a lot from them and they all contributed to 4 Corners’ success. Also had great guidance from mentors at SCORE, which is an organization of retired successful CEOs.

I believe you are what you say you are. I can go on forever about this, but basically, think about what you want to become, want it, believe it, put it out in the universe, and live life becoming that person.

Last but not least, I believe happiness is the key to success. I learned that work is not “work” if you enjoy what you are doing. Laugh at least 15 minutes a day. I have also chosen to surround myself with people who make me smile or laugh, which is one of the biggest factors to my success.

Has it been a smooth road?
Biggest struggle is cash flow and fear of losing the business in its entirety because of this.
