Meet Shaylin Jones

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shaylin Jones.

Shaylin, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as a creative professional.
I’m a dreamer originally from Detroit Michigan. In Detroit, everybody has a hustle, everyone is working towards a dream. Mine was to learn and experience everything I could in the beauty industry. After college, I went to Paul Mitchell the School Michigan when I grew my craft and business skills. I balance a full clientele at JCP Salon while working as an educator at Paul Mitchell. Once I felt I needed more, more to experience and more to learn, I moved here to California. My previous school owner introduced me to the world renown hair master Ken Paves. I was afforded the opportunity to assist him personally for two years! Not only did I learn amazing hair from Ken, but he also brought me in to experience Hollywood hair. Our daily adventures I watched him make the impossible possible! It was truly amazing, and the opportunities were endless. More than hair, I learned about the business, how to be prepared and how it’s ok to be yourself! During this time I was able to work with beautiful celebs including my now dear friend Nia Long. She actually gave me an opportunity of a lifetime to work with her on a tv show, NCIS LA. I will forever love my LA family and Ken for being so special to me in that time and always pushing me to do whatever I want to do! After all those amazing experiences and opportunities, that has brought me to Orange County. I have a special place in my heart for the OC. Which is why I finally decided to open a beauty studio In Orange County, so my laid back, beach-loving girls can get amazing hair too!!

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
My art is beauty. Although I’m a licensed Hairstylist and Cosmetology Instructor, I enjoy the full scope of beauty. I love to see the whole story after the outfit, the makeup, the destination. My contribution only begins at giving beautiful hair!

I hope that my clients leave with amazing hair, tricks to maintain it, and feeling like they’re ready to take over the world! Lol, really!

How can creative professionals connect with other creatives?
Connecting with other artists is so important to me. I feel as though it’s my lifeline. I have made other hairdresser friends since moving to LA, and I talk to a few of them daily. We keep each other current and encouraged.

With social media, everyone is afforded an opportunity to reach out and meet other artists like yourself. Even if they are famous. You just never know who may click with you and connect.

And try to connect with people in your area, maybe you find them online, but meet up! Exchange ideas and information.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
My work can be seen on my artist Instagram page @ShaylinJonesHair or my salon page @The_BeautyCompound.

They can support my work by booking an appointment online,
