Meet Shay Ramsee of Moxie Management

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shay Ramsee.

Hi Shay, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been a certified wedding planner since April 2012 and I have had the pleasure of planning the most beautiful weddings along the west coast. After a decade of wedding planning and launching my recent wedding planning business called Moxie and Luxe, I quickly realized I needed help to scale my business.

Finding reliable help wasn’t easy and there were moments I felt stuck. I didn’t have enough money to hire help when I needed it and I didn’t know where to even look to find people. I honestly wished there were experienced wedding planners (who didn’t look at me as competition) I could hire to help me on wedding days where I needed more assistance because I didn’t have time to find and train a newbie.

I couldn’t find a company that offered these services and had experienced planners who knew what they were doing so I decided to create that exact company! BUT I didn’t want to do it for just planners, I wanted to create the same opportunity for other wedding vendors. Just imagine a community, company, and agency of wedding vendors actually assisting other wedding vendors to succeed within the industry.

Welcome to Moxie Management, a company owned by an experienced certified wedding planner of ten years who wants to see other vendors grow their business too! There’s enough couples and money for all of us!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Since I recently launched my company Moxie Management, it has been a bit of a struggle to find vendors who need assistance with their business. With the economy and the wedding industry being unpredictable, I can understand why some people may not be able to afford it or even be in the mindset of expanding their company at this time.

So I decided to launch a community and membership called Wedding Insider Society to bring wedding vendors together. At this time, I feel like we should be focusing on community and connection over the competition. Within my community, I hope to create a safe space for vendors to share their stories, talk about topics like mental health, learn new ways to improve our businesses and feel fulfilled within the wedding industry.

We’ve been impressed with Moxie Management, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Moxie Management is a virtual and wedding day assistant company. I am a certified wedding planner helping other business creatives, especially wedding planners, avoid burnout by helping them improve their couples’ experiences and take on the tasks that dislike so they can focus on the tasks they love.

What sets me apart from other virtual assistant agencies is that I have ten years of hands-on experience as a wedding planner. I’m not someone who wants to be a part of the industry because it looks fun but because it’s truly a passion of mine. Also, I’m offering days of assistance not just virtual assistance which is a huge help for a lot of business owners.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of what my brand stands for. It’s all about community over competition. It’s about putting more positivity back into the wedding industry. It’s about everyone in the community succeeding because you definitely have to love the wedding industry to be a part of it.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
My number one advice to networking is to be open-minded with every interaction you have with someone. You never know who will bring you your next client, who will bring you your next opportunity, and who will change your life. You can learn something from everyone you talk to as long as you’re willing to listen.
