Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharon Shalom.
Sharon, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born in Israel. I came to US 14 years ago following my wife’s work and we settled in Seattle. About 7 years ago we made the move to live in sunny Orange County, California.
Throughout my career as a Web Statistical Analyst I always imagined becoming a professional photographer. As far as I remember I was always fascinated with photography. As a child, I loved taking photos and showing them to my family and friends.
After a long career as a Web Statistical Analyst working for great companies such as Expedia and Microsoft, I hit a crossroads in my life both professionally and personally. I call it my mid-life crisis in my 40’s. I then explored what I wanted to do and I finally decided to follow my dream and become a full-time professional photographer.
For me photography is a powerful way to tell stories without saying anything.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I have yet to hear of anyone who has had a smooth road. I feel the road of your business is the road to learning about yourself. As an artist, I was able to find my niche and enjoy it but as a business owner I was very green, and being able to find potential clients was very challenging.
Learning how to represent my own work was a learning curve. But looking back my only regret is that I didn’t pull the plug earlier.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Sharon Shalom Photography – what should we know?
The core of my business is selling my ART online and in the near future I’m looking to open my own Art gallery. I am very proud that I can make a living as a professional photographer and basically see my dream alive.
Over the last few years, I was blessed with so many opportunities to grow my business and my skills as a photographer\artist. I spent most of my time at the south California beach shooting beautiful seascapes in and out of the water.
However lately I started photographing client events: Weddings, Bar Mitzvahs and parties, and the reviews I’m getting are great. Working at an event my goal is to capture the unique personality of each person. Every person is unique and so are the events I photograph. I can create beautiful images that my clients will cherish for a lifetime.
