Meet Sharon Pulcino of Creative Visions Photography in Orange County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharon Pulcino.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Sharon. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
One of the 1st presents I requested from my parents was a Polaroid camera. My subjects were mostly my siblings, catching them in funny situations. Like sleeping with their mouths open or eating spaghetti; with 10 siblings & both parents being Italian, pasta was a staple.

I attended college in my hometown of Rochester, NY. Fortunately for me, RIT is nationally known for their photographic department. Moved to SoCal and photography was a part time profession until I took the leap in 1998 to making photography the source of my sole income. I have been a freelance, full time photographer ever since & it’s been an amazing journey.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s always difficult to strike out on your own without the security of being handed a regular paycheck. There have been times when my calendar was a bit scary but with faith, fortitude & hard work I always managed to survive financially.

I have managed to overcome the switch from film to digital and the Great Recession of 2008.

Creative Visions Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Strive for stress free weddings; I work closely with my clients (mostly the bride of course) well in advance of wedding day. I create a detailed outline for the sessions of the day & know exactly who they want in their family portraits. Family sessions are boring for the couple so I like to get it completed QUICKLY.

I guess the other factor I’m most proud of is mentoring upcoming photographers.

Starting my career would have been a much harder road if it weren’t for the guidance from others. I have mentored several photographers though my career that are now all successful in their own business.

For the past 20 years, weddings have been my specialty & have composed 80% of my work.

Always have goals! Right now, I am shifting my business from 80% weddings – 20% portraiture to a more even 50% each. Wish me luck…

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Multiple awards from Wedding & Portrait Professional International.
