Meet Sharon Cuevas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharon Cuevas.

Sharon, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am a first-generation Mexican-American. I moved around a lot growing up and although it was tough, it definitely gave me some skills that still help me till this day. It helped me be less afraid, more confident, and sociable. Being a first-generation Mexican-American was a huge deal because I am essentially mapping out the road for the next generation after me. I had to figure out a lot of things by myself as well as help my parents along the way. The first step I took towards guiding the next generation was being the first to graduate from a four-year university. It was a huge goal of mine and one of the toughest obstacles I faced but it was so worth it and very rewarding. I graduated with a business degree with an emphasis in accounting and a minor in English. College was an unforgettable experience that taught me so much about myself, my family, and my friends. It definitely helped me grow in ways I can’t describe. My experiences shaped me into the person I am today. I love traveling due to moving around a ton. I also enjoy trying new things like foods I’ve never tried before, skydiving, and going to concerts and events that friends introduce me to. I also love learning something new everyday whether it’s a new language, the arts, finance or how to build something from scratch. My goal is to learn a little bit of everything in order to help and guide the next generation.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road that leads to where I am today has not been straight or smooth. Growing up in a low-income household and moving around a lot was tough for my parents but they made sure I still had a great childhood. There have been unexpected turns and curves thrown my way but I had to learn to adjust from a young age. I had two choices. I could either be defeated or make the best of the situation. My parent’s definitely influenced me to look at the silver lining, count my blessings, and have a positive outlook on life.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Although I graduated with a business degree, I learned that the corporate world is not for me after experiencing it for a few years. I have always had a creative side. I enjoy art, history, music, social media, and theatre. I wanted to start creative projects because that is what I love. Thus, I started my social media journey. I decided to become an influencer and start a couple of business of my own that allows me to tap into my creative side. The reason I became an influencer is because I enjoy the process of setting up for a photoshoot and taking photos as well. I love choosing the costumes, putting together the set, choosing the background and the poses. I wanted to hone my photography, modeling, and fashion skills so I started my influencer journey which has been great because it connected me to so many wonderful people. This led me to start a TikTok page and a YouTube channel where I can further tap into my creative side with video content. On top of being a social media influencer, I also started a nail business where I create custom press-on nails and custom gel nail manicures. This is where I display more of my artwork. I truly enjoy making custom designs come to live based on my clients’ personalities. You can find my nail art page on Instagram at: @TheNailPenthouse. I am also in the process of starting another business but it is still in the beginning stages. I want to start a beauty spa for men and women to feel their absolute best. If you want to find out more about my beauty spa, you can find it on Instagram @BeautyLab54.

What are your plans for the future?
My plans for the future include becoming my own boss. It is a big dream of mine because I want to show the next generation that anything is possible. It is important for me to guide others in achieving their dreams. I want them to see that their dreams are not limited but limitless.
