Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharlla Amaradio.
Sharlla, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was coming into the empty nest chapter in my life. I had worked in the local school district for ten years and felt it was time for me to use my talents elsewhere. Problem was, I just didn’t know where. My husbands company would send out box of donuts to clients and insurance companies. I always thought that was such a boring and not to mention unhealthy thing to do. I offered to create a better snack box and immediately decided to create a beautiful little charcuterie. A few months later, I was gaining interest and people were asking for my company name and how to order more.
From there, I started to grow and starting offering boards and grazing tables. I decided to take a leap of faith and create my company The Gathering Table. Now two years later I’m catering large events and weddings. Mainly focusing on the larger more popular grazing tables. But I still make the occasional little charcuterie box. I definitely found something I love to do and a fabulous way for me to use my creativity and share my love of entertaining.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been more like a roller coaster. I’ve have learn so much in a little amount of time. I think I have struggled most with believing in myself. Some days I would be confident and feel accomplished, and then the next day I felt like an imposter. I usually don’t compare myself to others, I believe in doing your own thing. But when you’re navigating a business all on your own I think it’s easier to get inside your own head. I also have found it extremely hard to find products and source them wholesale. Being in Temecula, I am not close to a big city and my resources are limited. I don’t think some of my clients realize that I’m buying some items retail and don’t make a good profit from this sometimes. I have also had to be careful with my pricing. Temecula is a commuter town and most families here don’t have money to spend on lavish party and event catering. So I have spent a lot of time on making my product affordable and giving my clients the best quality.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Gathering Table – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
The Gathering Table creates artfully handcrafted charcuterie boards and grazing tables. I am known for my beautifully designed grazing tables. Thoughtfully curated displays of cheese, salami, fruits, veggies, antipasti, nuts, rustic breads, and dried fruits are arranged on tables ranging from 4-9 feet long. I am very proud of the quality and service I provide for each of my clients. I believe what sets me apart from others is my ability to plan and create every table with such detail. I take client’s ideas and turn them into beautiful displays of fresh food. My favorite words to hear when I finish a table are “its to beautiful to eat.”
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
As of right now, I don’t know what the future holds. I have learned life changes quickly sometimes and I am enjoying being flexible. I am loving what I’m doing, and I’m keeping my heart and mind open to new ideas.
