Today we’d like to introduce you to Shante Threatt.
Shante, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Christmas 2014, I received an amazon gift card and had no idea what to buy with it. While browsing I came across a candle making kit and thought “let me try this out”. The candles I made, I took them to work and sold them to my co-workers and they ended up loving them. So, I ran with the idea of creating my own candle company.
I have always known that I wanted to be my own boss, I just wasn’t sure on how to go about it. This kind of feel in my lap. I’ve always had a thing for fragrance and used feel weird taking in the scent of strangers as they walked by, but only the “good kind”.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting and running Scented Treatts has been a roller coaster ride. Being a mother, wife and still working a full-time job, has presented many obstacles for me. I must juggle home and business life, along with helping my husband with his two businesses, Triple Threatt and Squad 3. It gets challenging at times; I must force myself to take a break before my body does it for me. I am a 1 woman show right now, so I’m learning to manage my time wisely.
Luckily, my family can step in and help when needed. But with me being a control freak, I am always trying to do everything on my own when possible. I’m not sure if it’s a good or bad thing, but I think it will make me a better businesswoman in the long run.
Scented Treatts – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
The love of family and the love of fragrances is the foundation of Scented Treatts. Our collection of scented goods is homemade and made to order to assure the best quality & care. Scented Treatts offers Special Orders, Private Labeling, Special Events/Party Favors.
Scented Treatts started out as a candle company but has and will continue to grow into an assortment of wonderful products. I’ve always known that I would branch out and create other ways for people to enjoy Scented Treatts other than burning a candle. Not everyone has time to sit down and relax, so I try and create ways for people to enjoy our product on the go. That is how I came up with the idea to create room sprays and car fresheners.
I will be focusing more on Self-care since I myself have a hard time fitting that into an already hectic schedule. I am dedicated to helping others any way I can – Self-care is a very necessary part of living a better life.
Since we are online-based, I host an event called “Candles & Cocktails” to create an in-person shopping experience for returning and new customers. I recently hosted my 1st interactive event called “Sip + Create” in late 2019, where I choose one of the products from our line and allowed guest to have a DIY experience with Scented Treatts. Our next event is set for summer 2020 and info can be found on our website and social media pages soon.
What I am most proud about is the fact that I have created something that people actually love and even though its a tough road, I have been able to push past all of the obstacles and will continue to evolve as a entrepreneur.
What I believe may set me apart from other companies is that fact that I am not too much into trends, I do what feels right to me.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
To be honest, when I received the email from Voyage LA, I always put so much pressure on myself to work hard and having the honor of doing my 1st interview means that my hard work is paying off!
