Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon Pitt.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Shannon. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
I became an event host at 19, my sophomore year in college at Delaware State University. I was the official event host for three years. Hosting at a HBCU was Ana amazing experience night in night out. That experience helped drive the thought of me pursuing this as a career.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Far from smooth! Growing up in Brooklyn I was gravitated towards ignorance. Fashion, girls, cars, money was what I considered cool. When I was in college, I had to shift my entire mindset. Getting caught up in hustling and hanging with certain individuals was my downfall. I accumulated 13 charges on my record. Going to jail on numerous occasions. I was in 3 car accidents and also got shot. Through all of these things I somehow managed to maintain a positive mindset that my future was still bright.
Please tell us about Sha Boogie Ent.
Sha Boogie Ent was something I developed after college. When I graduated, certain opportunities didn’t fall through as they were supposed to which led to me having to shift gears. When I graduated, I became an educator. I used my earnings from teaching to develop my own radio show called 360 Brunch. My show highlighted the cities are rising stars in Art, Music, fashion, Entrepreneurship. The biggest thing I’ll say I was proud of was not only starting it up but maintaining it from Cali, Philadelphia, Delaware & New York. From there I was able to make it to Hot 97.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I think my favorite memory from childhood would be high school and being able to fall in love with Hip-Hop. Growing up shows like ‘106 & park’ helped shaped my outlook on being an African American pursuing a job in entertainment. It allowed me to push for a significant goal and I’m thankful to still make that push for myself and my family.
