Meet Shanee Finley of Wellness With Colors in Mid-Wilshire

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shanee Finley.

Shanee is a dedicated yoga & meditation teacher, massage therapist, healer, doula and activist who has a passion for community, healing arts and wellness. In modern times, she holds the space for others to connect with their ancestral wisdom, discover their authentic power and live more fulfilling lives.

Growing up in the tough city of Baltimore, where systemic oppression was stitched into the seams of our education, economic, healthcare and justice system, healing arts and creativity was the only tool that allowed Shanee to explore her unexpressed emotions and traumas in ways words could not. In 2012, yoga was introduced to Shanee as a self-empowering and self-transformational tool, after finding the resilience to make it thru her first 90-minute class, it was apparent why. Through the practice of yoga, she was able to find an outlet that allowed her to explore her mental, emotional and spiritual state through the physical existence.

Shanee enrolled in yoga programs across NYC, LA and South India with the intention to deepen her personal practice. In which she begins teaching shortly after, offering classes to non-profit organizations, inner-city schools and community centers. Shanee’s journey continued as she expanded becoming a Yoga, Meditation and Breath-work teacher, Massage Therapist, Reiki Practitioner, Vibrational Sound Medicine Healer, Birth Doula and community activist.

Leading these transformative classes was not just an exercise but a path to inner freedom which every individual should have access to as their birthright, But observing the lack of Representation, Inclusivity and Visibility of diversity within the wellness community inspired Shanee to bridge yoga and social activism.

Yoga highlighted for her the power imbalance we face in this country, between those who have access to wealth or privilege and those who are marginalized. Thru having more difficult conversations around diversity, we have the power to make inclusivity apart of our collective practice.

Today Shanee continues leading people to wellness in Los Angeles and around the globe. Not only does she lead powerful transformative classes on the mat but a huge advocate off the mat for improving maternal care, mental health awareness and rid the disparities minority communities face in healthcare, economic, education and justice system.

Has it been a smooth road?
Some of the struggles I’ve faced has been lack of Representation, lack of Inclusivity and lack of Visibility of Black women in the wellness community. By restructuring the ethic and moral foundation of the health and wellness industry, we have the opportunity to increase health equity for those who need it the most.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Wellness With Colors – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.

With roots in Tantra traditions, Shanee specializes in Rajadhiraja yoga, a complete system of yoga practices which focuses on expansion of consciousness and liberation. Each class consists of unique asanas or poses, visualization, affirmations, mudras, chanting, meditation and breath-work to balance our system. By harmonizing our endocrine system, we align our chakras, remove blockages, stimulate our parasympathetic system which is responsible for healing and repairing.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the accessibility to nature and wellness. Everyday I can truly indulge in self-care whether walking to grab a smoothie or a day at the beach.

Community. Coming from NYC, I’ve found attracting my tribe in LA took more effort than I’ve ever experienced. But I have to remember I’m in a new place and can’t carry those prior expectations. And I remain open and go with the flow.
