Meet Shana Yao of Total Genius®

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shana Yao.

Shana, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was a high end retail and shopping center marketing director for 25 years, working with international brands, Rodeo Drive, and entrepreneurs. During the economic downfall in 2009, I lost my job and hit a low point after both my parents died It wasn’t until I was forced to start a business when I couldn’t find a job in the failed economy, and, as they say, life doesn’t happen by accident. I found my marketing experience combined with an eye for talent and potential, my innovative mind, and my passion for helping others filled an unmet need in the entrepreneurial business world. My business quickly grew, and I continued to develop my abilities with in depth research about human psychology, neurology, holistic health, and money.

Has it been a smooth road?
After about a year, I was exhausted. I had been working nonstop and decided to pull back from my heavy client load that had prevented me from even marketing my own business. Unfortunately, I did what so many other lost entrepreneurs do, which is fall into Facebook – or what I like to call – the black hole of entrepreneurism. After a few weeks of comparing myself to others, feeling at a lost for things I did not have, I slowly lost my once bulletproof confidence in my experience, which tore both me and my business apart. But in the end, I learned some powerful lessons, and with the knowledge I have about our own human mind and potential, I am now determined to change the way entrepreneurs need and want to live, work, and market themselves.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Total Genius® – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love Los Angeles because it’s the city of dream seekers, action takers, and people who believe in the power of their dreams. I’m from Indiana and grew up in a very small college town at a time when prejudice was more common than it was today. As an Asian girl living in this small town, I felt ostracized for being Chinese. But when I arrived in Los Angeles over 25 years ago, I discovered while I was still a minority, there is a wider acceptance of people. There is nothing I don’t like about LA. Perfect doesn’t exist.
